10 Things to do Good for a Rainy Day in Waikoloa That You Shouldn't Miss

December 25, 2021 Concepcion Newsome

The South Kohala coast of the island of Hawaii is home to Waikoloa Beach. Ancient Hawaiian history and culture, including petroglyphs believed to represent the heavens, stands side-by-side with ultra modern full-service resorts. Waikoloa is also home to fine examples of traditional Hawaiian aquaculture. In 1985, the University of Hawaii renovated the Anchialine ponds which today nuture a wide variety of sea life. Nearby Anaeho'omalu Bay has the Ku'uali'i and Kahapapa Fishponds.

I had the 50 minute BIOTEC Skin Resurface facial and a nice haircut by Brittany. The facial was perfect, everything I expected. My skin felt very soft and smooth, very clean and detoxified. The facial was very relaxing and I felt tingly all over when Brittany was through. Next, on to the salon for a cut, shampoo and blow dry which Brittany also did. I have short hair and I was surprised to have spent about an hour in the chair. My 5 week routine cut at home is about 15 minutes! The haircut Brittany gave me was better than what I get at home, and the mango shampoo and conditioner left my hair very soft and shiny. Brittany is licensed as a beautician, nail technician, and facial technician. Her professionalism and experience are an asset to the Mandara Spa. Make your appointment and ask for Brittany, you won't be disappointed.

This was the only legit spa I could find in Kona. They have all the amenities; jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and showers. We had a big group and we all were able to get treatments at the same time. My masseuse was Patty and she brought cupcakes because she knew it was my birthday. Such great service and a great day of relaxation.

I live on the East side of the Island of Hawaii. Any time I travel to the other side to go to Kona Airport to pick up or drop someone off, this is my main stop. Grab a lunch or a drink or just a snack to make it back over the mountain. The food and dessert choices are very diverse. We've stayed at the resorts before and this store has everything you need to purchase for your meals while vacationing in the area. Even clothing. Love it! This store has something for any age group.

First of all if you stay at the Fairmont Orchid, there is a shuttle available to take you from the hotel to here and you can call for a shuttle back from any store. This place is just so convenient and they carry a lot of essentials. They also sell lunch boxes we bought a bento with a musubi and fried chicken in it, and a 6.99$ spicy ahi poke bowl here (the poke tasted great by the way). This is a great way to save on lunch or breakfast or if you wake up late brunch! They also carry grocery items and fresh fruits that you can enjoy on your trip.

We asked our waiter Mike for a recommendation...he said that the burgers and pizza were the most popular orders, however, we wanted something a little more “celebratory” to cap our wonderful week, before we left for the airport and home. We found a hidden gem in the filet and lobster...which 3 of our party of 4 ordered, and the 4th ordered the filet mignon and bacon tacos. Mike laughed when we all ordered differently....medium rare, medium, medium well and well. All four of us were thrilled as the orders came back cooked to perfection of each of our various tastes. The drinks were wonderful, and special kudos to Mike, who brought a plate full of maraschino cherries, as he obviously overheard my wife exclaim “I could eat a dozen of these cherries”! We finished our meal with coffee (Kona of course) and an exceptionally rich and substantial carrot cake (yum). We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect dinner...the entrees, drinks, dessert, and the exceptional service from Mike!
