Lourensford Wine Estate

This was our first visit to Lourensford. what a breathtakingly beautiful venue! Very well organised, right from the parking, friendly professional staff attending with friendly welcoming smiles. We were a group of 6 friends, together to celebrate my husband's birthday! Service at the Millhouse restaurant was fabulous. Happy staff attending , nothing was too much trouble. The pizzas were delicious. We sat outside on the deck. We did a wine tasting in the cellar after lunch, which was fun and informative and, this is a wine estate we will definitely be inviting all our friends to visit, and we'll be back! We also enjoyed the looking at the diverse Art in the Art gallery. Restrooms were pristine. This is a place to spend the day and chill and just enjoy the beauty.

Morgenster Wine Farm and Olive Estate

There’s a place, in close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, on the foothills of a mountain where nature reigns. Amongst undulating hills and valleys of decomposed shale, unspoilt nature stitches in vineyards and olives trees; roots dug deep into the soil, canopies arched towards the South African sun. Only 74 ha of the 200 ha estate is under vine and olive trees, the rest is given over to the mountains and the wetlands where eagles carve through the sky and owls roost in trees close to the cellar door. Visit our contemporary tasting room, perched on the edge of a dam, with views of mountains and wetlands. Visitors can experience a variety of both wine and olive oil tastings in this bucolic setting.

We did the experience tasting which includes full olive oil tasting, wine tasting (three different wines) and two platters (Juicy fresh olives, bread, crackers and a chatucerie board). The tastings were lovely (quality olive oils and wines). The lady who did our tasting was friendly and knowledgeable. The olive oils and wines were amazing and unlike others, quite unique in flavour! And all in a picturesque setting. An unusual and pleasant tasting that I recommend!

Waterkloof Wines

Turn off the Sir Lowry's Pass Village Road and enter the Waterkloof gates, and a lane of trees beckon towards the hills, where a total sensory experience awaits. The road meanders through an amphitheatre flanked by reclaimed fynbos and immaculately kept vineyards, before arriving at our state-of-the-art cellar. A sign welcomes you to our tasting lounge. Stop for awhile outside and breathe deeply. Fill your soul with the views over the surrounding Schaapenberg Hills and the waters of False Bay down below. Now enter the main area, designed to hold you in awe, showcasing the sincere, clean essence of our Old World-style wines. Tall glass walls allow views of both the working cellar and the farm below, while raw concrete columns frame artworks from well-known South African artists.

The setting is unrivaled, perched high overlooking Somerset West - we were there on an overcast day and it was still spectacular! The service is what really stood out to us, the people are just happy to be there and nothing is too much to ask. Shane the sommelier was great throughout, Faith our waitress was a delight, each chef who came out to present a dish was excellent, and even the Executive Chef, Gregory, wasn't too caught up to leave the kitchen to check on each table and stay for a chat. The food is obviously the highlight, every course, every bite is an experience, and the wine pairing with the dégustation menu is spot on with wines from the farm itself. We didn't want to leave and could have stayed there forever. An absolute experience from start to finish - thank you!

A warm welcome greeted us with an excellent and knowledgeable host. The atmosphere is relaxed, a great range of wine and good prices and best of all - the wine is really good for the 'normal' wine drinker as well as the more sophisticated palates. A really good experience. NOTE: tasting fee was waived when we bought wine.

Avontuur Wine Estate and restaurant is our very favourite place to eat as the food is always excellent and the service outstanding. Now they have introduced a guided walk around the farm which my husband and I did today. It's a lovely gentle walk taking about two hours to walk the 5 kms trail. The views are outstanding and it is so lovely to see the horses up close. Our guide, Alistair was extremely knowledgeable about the farm and its history as well as being able to tell us all about the flora and fauna in the area. This walking tour is highly recommended.

If you are looking for relaxed atmosphere, good food and great service go to Mugg & Bean, Somerset West Mall. They make the best bottomless coffee and scone. Hope, was our waitress, we've been there couple of time but she is always attentive, polite and friendly. I will highly recommend that if you happen to be around Somerset West Mall, Mugg & Bean is where you should go.
