The Grand Manan Museum collects, preserves, and displays items that represent the human and natural history of the Village of Grand Manan, and the Islands of the Grand Manan Archipelago. It promotes education and appreciation of the community's heritage, culture, and physical environment through public programs and exhibits. The Museum's founding exhibit when it opened in 1967 was the 300 birds of the Allan Moses Bird Collection. This exhibit has been upgraded recently with a touch screen computer of bird calls and a short NFB documentary about Allan's life. In 1967, the Gannet Lighthouse Second Order Fresnel Lens was moved to a field behind the Museum, and in 1997 a new marine gallery was built to accommodated it inside. In 2013 the Museum became a Member of the United States Lighthouse Society, and visitors can now purchase a Lighthouse Passport in the gift shop and have their passport stamped for visiting the Gannet Rock Light. In 2017 the historic Deep Cove One-Room School House situated behind the Museum was restored and joined to the Museum with a boardwalk and new outdoor exhibits. In 2017 a large marine mural in a spiral staircase also opened for the first time, the efforts of five artists. It covers the ecology of the upland, intertidal and subtidal zones of the Bay of Fundy around Grand Manan and features 139 species. The Museum houses more than 20 permanent and several new exhibits annually, and houses the Grand Manan Archives which is open by appointment. Evening and special events programming take place throughout July-August, mainly on Tuesday and Thursday evenings 7:30-8:30, admission by donation. Islanders and island industries of Grand Manan have always been generous in keeping the Museum alive and vibrant, and its operation depends on volunteers, gifts, and donations. It is also funded in part by the Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture, Museum Services, Heritage Branch.
This is a museum you MUST see If you have more than a day to spend on Grand Manan (or even if you come for a single day so badly fogged up you can't see Fundy Bay). It looks unassuming from the outside but the interior is full of one marvelous room after another that tells the story of the island, it's people, the ways of life involving the sea, the birds (a whole room dedicated to the wide range of birds, including a console that permits you to hear the bird calls of the birds you are viewing), the folk art of the "hermits" of Dark Cove, the lighthouses (including a light from one of them!), the ship wrecks. I could go on and on! There are educational display outside, and the old school house (one of the staff will have to open that for you). The gift shop is not large but is full of really nice gifts and mementos. . Even young children, given scavenger hunt forms, were enjoying it while we were there. Plan for 3 hours, if not more.(Entrance costs are relatively low,and btw: given the senior citizen ages of wife and I, we got in at a reduced $5/each.).. This is a hidden gem, so don't miss it..

A visit to the Basilica is worth taking as it over looks the Mirimachi River. A very imposing structure with arches and stained glass offers a great photo opportunity.

I took part in the ghost walk this past summer while I was on vacation in St.Andrews, Felicity who led the ghost walks was very friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable. We truly enjoyed the different sites and history of the town. We truly enjoyed the Gaol and it was easy to tell that this was the biggest hit and Felicity truly enjoyed it and was extremely passionate throughout the different history. The Gaol was definitely haunted and super spooky and Felicity did a wonderful job of emphasizing it. 10/10 I will definitely be back again!!!

This craft brewery is definitely a must see when travelling to New Brunswick, minutes away from the Quebec and Maine borders. COVID-19 UPDATE: As of June 12, 2020 we will be encouraging visiting us by appointment in order to ensure we can monitor numbers. Contact the museum via phone or email to book your tour today! Dayspring is the largest home in St. Andrews-by-the-Sea, New Brunswick, Canada. It was built in 1928 for Lewis Egerton Smoot, an American businessman from Washington. In 1947 Dayspring was sold to Algoma Steel, then owned by Sir James Dunn. Algoma transferred ownership to Sir James and he and his third wife, Marcia Anastasia Christoforides. In 1995 Dayspring was purchased by Vincent Prager, a lawyer from Montreal and the only son of Eva Prager O.C. and eldest grandson of Joseph Oppenheimer R.P. In 2011 when he donated it to The Joseph and Fanny Oppenheimer Foundation so that a Museum could be opened – the Oppenheimer-Prager Museum at Dayspring – to exhibit works by Joseph Oppenheimer and Eva Prager, as well as the estates history with the Dunn’s and Beaverbrooks
The only difficulty we had with this place was finding a place to park! In the end we parked at the hotel and walked over. We were greeted by the staff and while in the great hall, the former owner popped in to say a quick hello. Later the butler who worked there for 39 years was able to answer questions. We enjoyed the house and the art, would love to see more of the house.

Tour our historic brewery where we brew our beer today and learn how art, science, and passion come together to create award-winning beers. Dating back to 1867, learn about how the Oland family brewing business has survived for six generations and how Moosehead continues to be one of the most resilient and time-honored Canadian breweries.
I’m a local, having worked at the brewery previously but never visited as a tourist so when my friends came to visit from Germany, we decided to do the tour! Greg was a great tour guide and had lots of knowledge to share and John in the Small Batch was lovely! Definitely recommend for anyone visiting.

MR21 is an interpretation center located in Canada's only digital cathedral. Run by a secular nonprofit, its original content should interest those wishing to discover this NB heritage gem. The center's scenography makes use of cutting edge technology (interactive screens, immersive projections, etc.) that offers visitors an experience of total, emotional and autonomous immersion. The learning experience is entertaining, intense and authentic.
I had the chance to visit the cathedral on a free admission day during March break with my granddaughter. The digital installations are a unique way to learn more about the cathedral and the Acadian community. We recommend it to people interested in history and heritage.

The New Brunswick Museum (NBM) provides a remarkable introduction to New Brunswick's rich cultural history and diverse natural environment. At Canada's oldest continuing museum, visitors will discover stories of New Brunswick's past and present on three floors of creative exhibitions, and fun events.
Highly recommended to include into your itinerary...or make a special trip there! My wife and I, during our trip to Nova Scotia, intentionally stayed an extra day in Saint John to visit the New Brunswick (NB) Museum and take in a few other sights. We are so glad that we did. This museum is a treasure trove of wonderful NB history, the importance of logging and shipping, displays of the "Changing Earth", birds of NB, and very notably a spectacular displays of Great Whales and a mastodon. Not to be missed on Level 3 are notable Canadian contributions to space exploration and various artwork. A visitor could easily spend a half-day there touring through this great museum. Commendation is truly deserved to the curators and staff in their ability to collecting and displaying such interesting and compelling displays.
