My husband and I routinely treat ourselves to massages during "tropical" vacations. In addition, we recently started in home massages on a monthly basis. NOTHING compares to the treatments we received a Ho'omana Spa. The setting is divine; clean, peaceful and aromatic. I was hesitant to do a couples massage but acquiesced to my husband of 35 years. Heather and Lauren ( 5 out of 5 stars for both) began the deep tissue massage with a Hawaiian chant which set the spiritual mood and we were off for 80 minutes of A BLISSFUL LOMI LOMI MASSAGE which we learned is a combination of many generations of teachings that has surfaced after being hidden for many years. The lotions/mists are handmade and lovely. Honestly best money spent while visiting Maui. P.S. The Lavender farm was recommended by Heather and was a great find too!

Antonio was the greatest! He had everything we needed for the day's adventure including raincoats, snacks, water, food, lunch and a Ukulele to play as we toured the black beach! He was a pleasure! He took photos of us with his camera so we wouldn't miss the BEST shots that we would miss with our selfies or our phone cameras. He had ongoing energy and was SUPER accommodating! The tour was made for us and seeing the MUST see places and destinations along the way. The car was completely clean, he was covid compliant and we were comfortable. Highly recommend him and have been recommending him to friends who made the trip to Hawaii. After the LONG day of Road to Hana tour, he then drove us to dinner at Mama's Fish House and because we mentioned not having been Leid - he made sure we had awesome leis at our dinner. He didn't miss a beat and made our trip special!

Makai Glass Maui

Makai Glass features unique glass blown sculptures inspired by the sea and volcanic formations of the Hawaiian Islands. Artists Justin Brown and Randy Schaffer and their team of glass artist create each glass piece with the “breath of aloha”, infusing it with their love for the islands and its inhabitants. Each hand-sculpted piece carries its own unique, magical quality that illuminates with the Hawaiian essence wherever showcased. Feel the spirit again and again by preserving your memory of the islands through Makai Glass. The name "MAKAI" is Hawaiian and was chosen for its meaning, "toward the sea" or "ocean side". It's symbolic to the Artists because of their attraction to the island of Maui and their adoration of its mystical sea life and wave formations. It also incorporates the idea of movement, flow and reflection, which are all characteristics of glass and its evolution from hot molten lava-like fluid to the smooth, perfected piece you see today. A trip to Makai Glass Creations is an ABSOLUTE MUST If on Maui. Even if you are not, we have found we can watch Randy Shaffer and the artisans at Makai on live Facebook sessions. Check it out. Yes it is hot upstairs in the viewing area so it would be tough to watch a complete creation. We watched for 3 hours on a Facebook live session while they created an ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS whale breach for us. Randy and the gang are so fun to work with, wether at the Craft Faire’s at the Westin or at the Gallery in Haliimaile across from the Haliimaile General Store restaurant. During the Covid shut down, they have expanded their gallery so definitely take a look at them on line at Makaiglass.com because you will not believe their creativity and expertise. Looking forward to our next visit in March. ????

Haliimaile Distilling Company

Hali'imaile Distilling Company produces handcrafted, locally made, authentic Hawaiian brand spirits. We are located in the heart of Maui's pineapple region, Upcountry Makawao, Maui. Our goal is to create "Hawaii in a Bottle." At Hali'imaile Distilling Company we set ourselves apart by starting with local ingredients and distilling in small batches, using unique stills, to create authentic Hawaiian spirits. Every part of our Distilling process is one of a kind and designed in house. Once distilled, our spirits are mixed with crystal clear reverse osmosis Hawaiian water. Upcountry Maui is not only a place, it's a lifestyle. Hali'imaile Distilling Company is located in the small town of Makawao, home to the Paniolo (Hawaiian cowboys). For many years, Hawaiians have farmed the rich, volcanic soil of the Upcountry fields. Geographically speaking, Upcountry Maui is much of the area on the Haleakala side of Maui, away from the shoreline. Upcountry is mostly rural, agricultural and residential. Beyond upcountry, you can reach Maui's highest peak at the Haleakala National Park. The largest towns Upcountry are Makawao, Pukalani, Kula and Haiku, although Upcountry has no precise boundaries. Our pristine surroundings give us access to clean air, pure water and exquisite agriculture. Allowing us to produce ultra-premium, Hawaiian spirits. History of Hali'imaile Distilling Company Located in Makawao, Maui, Hali'imaile Distilling Company is located on the slopes of Haleakala. It sits among the pineapple fields and sugar cane fields that have been harvested for over a century. If you go to the edge of the property, you get a gorgeous view of the coastal rim of the entire island. Hali'imaile Distilling Company is the culmination of a dream made reality from the LeVecke family. A family whose life in the spirits industry spans over half a century, and more specifically on the Hawaiian Islands for the last 30 years...Building brands like Hana Bay Rum and Whaler's Rum. 15 Years ago 2 brothers decided to start their own truly authentic micro-distillery on the island of Maui. Their goal was to create spirits that were truly one of a kind. Their journey found them scouring the country for a like-minded master distiller that could help bring this dream to reality. Mark Nigbur, a charismatic and gifted distiller in Colorado, was introduced to the brothers. Mark was making a name for himself in the industry for his unconventional distilling techniques and superior products. He had founded his own micro-distillery where he was distilling vodka from pharmaceutical grade glass stills that he engineered and designed himself. It wasn't long until the relationship was cemented and Mark brought his family to Maui to become Hali'imaile Distilling Company's Master Distiller. Today Mark works alongside his eldest son Cory who currently manages the day to day Distilling operations. So while this is a fairly new distillery and a brand new visitor center, this was a family dream in the making for the last 30 years. We are happy to welcome you to their vision. Hali'imaile Distilling Company...Born Upcountry.

It was great to hear about the intentional efforts of the company to maintain local partnerships and sustainable practices. A great experience! After our tasting experience, we purchased a bottle of gin, rum, and oaked aged vodka to take home, since these are not currently available on the mainland.

Jordanne Gallery and Studio

A beautiful artist owned Gallery in the heart of upcountry Makawao town. Most days, catch the artist painting in her Gallery which is a fun, interesting and special experience. Her pieces are moments in time where she focuses on making great paintings and great memories. Jordanne is an American made story and after 15 years of being self-sustained she continues to soar new levels with her pieces. Jordanne works mostly in the Plein-Air style. If she can't be painting outdoors, she still finishes her pieces in one sitting. There are times where she is focusing on capturing the poetry of the moment in other ways such as glazing where she goes back to the piece as masters such as Monet had done times before her. Her mediums of choice are oils, acrylic with gold leaf and watercolor. Jordanne is known for her paintings of Hawaiian landscapes, plantation homes, bouquet arrangements and signature gold-leaf pineapple paintings.

We’ve tried to visit Jordanne’s gallery on previous visits, but our timing always seemed off. We loved the coaster tiles in the window, and what we could see of the artwork. But this time in June 2017, we were in luck: the “Artist in Residence Today” sign was hanging out front. Jordanne, a New York transplant, was working at a large canvas on an easel, and discussing her artwork with a couple of guests. Partially obscured by the large canvas was a painting on the wall that had all the colors—and more—of the Birds of Paradise we grow in our yard in California. My partner’s eye was caught by a beautiful painting of umbrellas on the Wailea Beach. We talked with Jordanne at length; she is in love with the soul of art, her art, and it comes out in waves of what I can only call true joy. On this trip, we had visited a number of galleries, and bought a variety of prints and glass objects. But we both had a sense we were still looking for something. Well, that search ended right here. We fell in love with Jordanne’s combination of Impressionism and expressionism. There are a lot of skilled and engaging artists on Maui; this is now our favorite. Jordanne explained a number of her techniques, including how she would start with certain under-layers to achieve effects in the final painting, creating pastel and watercolor effects with oils. She described her studies in Provence and Italy, and some of the classical techniques and mechanics she learned there. It was so refreshing to be in a gallery with the actual artist, not some manager or spokesperson, and an extroverted one at that. We bought three paintings, one of which Jordanne took the time to swap into a custom frame. Custom framing and shipping charges to California pretty much absorbed any bundled discount we achieved. Jordanne has a head for business as well as a soul for art. Leave your hard bargaining posture at home, and she will treat you fairly. If you’re serious, make sure to bring your checkbook (to eliminate CC fees), your eye, and your soul.
