The landscape of Hilo, on the Big Island of Hawaii, is diverse. Beaches of black, gray, brown and white sand give way to mountains and dramatic waterfalls. Hilo's Pana'ewa Rainforest Zoo is the only U.S. zoo in a tropical rainforest. A day trip away are snow-capped Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, with observatories near 11,000 feet on both mountains, and Kilauea Caldera, an active volcano. Back in town are a farmer's market, restaurants, shopping and banyan trees planted by celebrities and politicians.

We provide you the benefits of having a small group excursion with a local, experienced naturalist who loves the Big Island, knows the best spots and tells the fascinating stories of the people, plants, and animals who make this beautiful island their home. A portion of all our tour fees go to a select group of organizations whose goals are to protect and replenish our island's unique and delicate natural ecosystems.

My wife and I had a fantastic trek one mile into the Kazumura cave today with Harry on the 4 hour Pit Room tour. Harry is a fountain of knowledge on lava formations and paints a vivid picture of how different formations were, well, formed! (Definitely ask questions about anything you see and let Harry know if you want your tour to have more or less info stops) anyways, hiking through the cave itself was awesome - by the end I felt like an expert on lava flows, what oxides the different colors meant, and how to spot life down in the darkness. The hike is of moderate difficulty- some scrambling over loose rock falls and some slightly hair-raising ladder sections, but Harry did a great job showing us the paths that kept us and the cave safe. By the end of the tour, I was sweaty, sore, and happy.

I had a great experience with Lawrence. He is skilled, very professional, and has great energy. I felt instantly at ease meeting him and felt completely comfortable throughout the massage. The pressure was exactly perfect and he made sure to check in with me to ensure that it wasn't too much. He intuitively found all the extra spots that needed attention besides the one I initially mentioned. The ambience and vibration in his space is very soothing. It's tastefully decorated with natural lighting. I great atmosphere for a massage! As an acupuncturist, I will recommend sending my own clients to see him for massage work.

Established in 1977. Big Island Candies was established in 1977 to manufacture and market fine quality macadamia nut candies and cookies using 100 percent Hawaii-grown macadamia nuts and Kona coffee, island eggs, real butter and high-grade chocolate. Since its founding, Big Island Candies has continuously introduced new and imaginative products that "wow" both the eyes and taste buds of its growing legion of fans.
It's all made right there and you can watch them make it. The shortbread cookies and the best, they use this stuff called butter!!! they are the bomb!! If you are diabetic like my wife they do have a line of Sugar free short bread cookies that are as good as the sugar sweetened ones. They have a full line of chocolate candies and so much more.

This historic 1925 movie theater in downtown Hilo reopened in 1999 after being closed for 17 years. Our Mission is to revitalize, restore, and sustain the Historic Palace Theater as a venue that will educate, entertain, and inspire our diverse community. The Palace opened in October 1925 with the Silent Film “The Son of Zorro” Starring Douglas Fairbanks. Since then the Palace Theater has shown many types of films including Festivals, Documentaries, Independent, Sleepers, Art House, Academy Award Winners, Silver Screen Classics & still even shows Silent Films accompanied by the Palace Organ. But the Palace is a lot more then just a movie theater. Many Famous Musicians & Music Festivals, for example, have preformed here, covering a large array of music. Classical, Rock, Jazz, Blues, Electronic, Hawaiian & many other Traditional World Music acts. Live Theater, Musicals, Ballets & Halaus have also graced the Palace stage. Not to mention private parties and Hilo’s Special Events May Day Lei Day, Black & White Night & Chinese New Year. This Historical Theater has been in the hearts of many for almost a century, and we hope it will become a treasured memory for you as well. It’s through volunteered time & charitable donations that restorations & operations are possible, so that the Palace can continue entertaining the people & visitors of the Big Island for many more years.
Not air-conditioned, best in the winter to go see a movie. Very impressed with the variety of films at The Palace.
