Aquaworld Aquarium & Reptile Rescue Centre

Aquaworld - Crete's first Aquarium - opened in Hersonissos in 1995 - near Bus Stop 20. It features local sea life and reptiles from Crete and from all around the world. Most of the animals are rescued or are unwanted pets which have found a new home at Aquaworld. Our philosophy is simple - bring people and animals closer together and, inevitably, people will begin to respect and care more about the animals! YOU MUST WEAR MASKS TO VISIT!

Winery Stilianou

Boutique family winery. Organic wines and olive oil. Tour and tasting. Very very nice view. Visiting times. April-October 11.00-19.00 every day

This is the second time we visited this lovely family owned winery and once again we enjoyed a warm welcome from Yannis and his son who walked us through tasting all their delicious wines and Olive Oil. Of course we had to buy as much as we could fit into our suitcase as the wines were just too tasty not to take them with you - so if you go, be prepared with some space in your suitcase. I believe they ship as well and started working with more distributors, so there is hope we can get their tasty wines in the UK in future as well. Regardless of this, that place is always worth a visit as it has lovely views, a nice atmosphere and the wine always tastes best when enjoyed at its source. Thank you so much for having us this year and we will be back again for sure!

The visitors' wine experience starts even before arriving at the winery, as the route and the surrounded landscape is filled with images that emphasize the viticulturist character of the region. The tour starts from the production areas of the winery, continues at the cellar and ends at the tasting room where the guest then has the opportunity to taste our wines. My sister and I went to the winery for the tour and tasting in September 2020. Guys were harvesting at that time, so we were lucky to witness some production processes like grape crushing :D The nice lady guide took us through the the place explaining how the wine is made from A to Z. We ended in the tasting room and the wine was delish) Refreshing whites, mouthwatering reds, absolutely Devine desert wines... People, go there and try it yourself! ) I regret we didn’t take home a bottle of Helios ( Was looking for it at the airport with no luck Anyhow, the Alargo Syrah we tried at the winery made a safe trip to London and is waiting for a special occasion to make it even more special Thank you, Douloufakis Winery!

Thanks to Nicky Paterianaki for taking the time to conduct a wine tasting and tell us the history of this family owned winery now run by a generation of daughters. Beautiful setting for the tasting and great to learn about the indigenous varieties in this PDO region. Kudos for producing such fine organic wines and taking care of the environment.

We found this place on TripAdvisor and decided to visit this place run by 2 enthousiastic people. To find the road to the farm was quite a challenge with our gps that found ways that weren't a real road. Anyway, we managed to find the small farm in the middle of nowhere and the 2 owners. We were welcomed to their garden and home and got a clear explanation of the work they do there. Stavros spoke English very well and even a mouthfull of Dutch :) We talked about the farm and lots of other things, we felt like home. Keep up the good work guys, lots of love and all the best!

Solo Brewery

Originated from Crete, Solo is not just any beer but a craft beer with soul. Anthropocentric, proud & uncompromising by nature, obsessed with the idea that good beer is a human right, Solo is addressed to all those who desire a great beer. Furthermore, rather than brewing for the sake of profit, Solo creates & experiments while calling beer lovers and enthusiasts for interaction with the belief that much more than about beer, craft beer is about people. We are honored when our beers enjoy your appreciation but our real joy comes through human contact, interaction and sharing. Therefore, our “ house ” is open to all of you who share the same spirit. Our brewery is located at the region of Kalithea in Heraklion’s industrial zone, where, much more than a beer production unit, we have created a space to share our love for craft beer and its culture through events, tastings, workshops, guided tours and tailor made experiences. You are all welcome !

We called at the Solo Brewery in September 2020. It is deep in an industrial area, but still easy to find. It brews six regular beers and some specials - we sampled seven brews. The sales guy Vasilis looked after us throughout - he even ordered some food / cold cuts which were brought to us. We loved the beers, especially the IPAs. Vasilis gave us a short tour of the brewery / it is only quite small. We bought two boxes of take away beers for later. Highly recommended for beer lovers!
