10 Things to do Good for a Rainy Day in Coeur d'Alene That You Shouldn't Miss

July 12, 2021 Jana Sager

While it may sound like a French village, Coeur d'Alene (pronounced core-da-lane) is decidedly all-American. Located in northern Idaho, this lakefront resort offers five-star amenities in a beautifully rugged setting. Visitors enjoy everything from pristine golf courses and professional quality tennis courts to hiking on pine-forested trails and biking through natural preserves. The sparkling Coeur d'Alene Lake is the center of most of the action. Sunbathe on the beach, water ski, kayak or tour the area by sea plane. At night, dine in fine restaurants and see top-rated shows. With upscale attractions in an unspoiled setting, Coeur d'Alene offers visitors the best of both worlds.

The Art Spirit Gallery

Established in 1997, The Art Spirit Gallery features high-quality, original work by regional artists embracing a diversity of mediums and styles. The gallery seeks to exhibit artists with a unique voice that show a dedication to craft, materials, observation and creativity. The 4,000 square foot gallery has hosted about 200 exhibitions and curated shows, generally opening on the second Friday of each month. It's a vibrant art environment that makes art collecting and browsing relaxed and enjoyable. Gallery founder Steve Gibbs started the gallery after a successful 15-year career as an art director and graphic designer. He strived to promote high-quality art in the resort community of Coeur d’Alene while fostering the work of local and regional artists. He joined with various arts organizations to actively promote art education and develop awareness and participation in the arts on a community and state level. Since Steve's passing on December 31, 2016, the gallery is continuing to move forward to keep his beautiful legacy alive. We have also recently collaborated with the University of Idaho to create the Art Spirit Education Collaboratory. This non-profit will run alongside the for-profit gallery as an educational arts entity. We are proud to celebrate 20 years of business in July 2017!

Escape Game Coeur d'Alene

Escape Game Coeur d'Alene is a real live adventure game that pits your wits against a locked room full of clues, cyphers, and secrets. Solve them all in one hour to escape! Just gather your group of 4 to 12 players and get ready for some mind blowing fun!

This was my first time playing an escape game and my daughter's second time. The theme was Greek Gods - and that is a huge interest of hers. It took me a moment to figure out what exactly was expected, but clues definitely helped. All in all, we were able to win the game literally at the last second. It was an awesome experience and we would highly recommend. Also, due to COVID, it was only the two of us, without any strangers - and that made it a much better experience, as we could solve it ourselves, without having other people do all the work. I would encourage you to continue running it that way.

Anytime I have an out of town guest, Figpickles is a definite stop when we head to downtown CDA. They have a large variety of toys, games, and puzzles, many of which you won't find anywhere else. The store employees are knowledgeable about the different games and products throughout the store. it's a fun place to browse (and be nostalgic as there are many toys and games that reflect toys of the past) and shop.

We have been wine club members here for a couple of years now- all their wines are great- haven't had anything I didn't like. We are always treated like family when we visit - Tasting room staff member, Devin, is so helpful and attentive. The winery is cozy and great for an afternoon or evening of great fun and wine. They host many events, live music, paint nights... a real gem in CDA

Northwest Tattoo Museum & Tattooing

The Northwest Tattoo Museum (NTM) has moved to a new spacious location. Come see the museum or get a tattoo from an artist of your choice. The NTM is an excellent educational outreach resource base for anyone curious about the craft of tattooing; tattoo history, modern, and contemporary practices, and getting tattooed. The NTM tattoo historian and curator (Jay Brown) is a Master of Tattoo certificate holder with 35 years in the Craft. He can provide a personal tour of the museum or schedule private sessions. The NTM collection is largely representative of the last century of mainstream tattoo subculture in North America. The collection showcases historical photographs, documents, flash, tattoo implements, tattoo related artifacts, an expanding library, an archive of historic documents; and has been incorporating indigenous tattoo material culture from North America and worldwide.
