Like Rome, Bamberg sits on seven hills, though these are lush, green Bavarian ones. You’ll find all sorts of architecture here, so enjoy exploring the cobbled streets. Plenty of shopping and museums await you, as do nine different breweries. The city loves markets and festivals, especially around Christmas.

I'm biased, since I'm a homebrewer and I often use Weyermann malts in my brews, but visiting this place was top on my to-do list for Bamberg. The tour did not disappoint. They ended up doing the tour in English because that was a majority language of the group; sometimes they do it in German, and by special arrangement they can do other languages too. You see *everything* in the maltery, get to sample grains roasted in various ways, and have a beer tasting afterwards. Well worth an afternoon. Be aware that they only take cash for the tour, but the shop is very happy to accept credit cards...

quest4exit - the first escape-the-room-game in Bamberg. The main concept of escape games is as follows: Your team gets locked in into a room and you have to get out within one hour. There are puzzles to solve and secrets to discover until you find the key to the main door. Every game ("room") has a special story and everything (decoration, puzzles and special effects) in the room fits into this story. "Number 47": You are on a hiking trip with some friends. After some 2,5 h walk, a thunderstorm starts and you decide to use a abandoned old house a little off the trail noz to get too wet. What could possibly go wrong? ...

This is one of the most impressive German cathedrals I've ever visited; with the four towers (two were under scaffolding), the Bamberger Dom is a superb example of Late Romanesque design. In addition to some great art and sculpture, such as the Bamberg Horseman and the Veit Stoss Altar, the church houses the tomb of Pope Clement II, the only pope who is laid to rest north of the Alps. Adjacent is the Diocese Museum, if you are into this. Certainly, a MUST visit when in Bamberg.

The museum is located close to the Bamberg Cathedral and is home to the Treasury of the Cathedral. The collections are extensive and we especially admired the beautiful old textiles that still seem to be in a very good condition. Other objects of art include paintings, the holy cross of the cathedral, monstrans, and wood carvings.
