Designated the capital city of Kazakhstan in the late 1990s, Astana boasts a landscape glittering with new architecture and construction projects as the government infrastructure continues to be built. Old and new quarters of the city are divided by the Ishim River, with older, Soviet era structures on the north side while the governmental quarter and monuments like the monolithic Bayerek Tower spread out to the south. The central Avenue of the Republic is a hub of entertainment and business.

Well organised, not particualrly expensive museum, with rich collection of Kasakh culture artefacts. Particularly important golden grave findings from different locations within the country. One precious thing - photos are allowed (not like in Almaty). And open till late in some days, For me the National museum is always a must in every country; I cannot understand why organised trips very often omit museums, even these most important...

A monumental Pyramid shaped building built and completed in 2006 to commemorate the Meeting of Congress of Leaders worldwide and traditional religions. They meet every three years around a round table near the top of the building. A nice guided tour by a pleasant hostess and also a very green garden near the top. This building represents the Spirit of Kazakhstan, has a great Opera hall accomodating about 1500 people a library and also displays of gifts given by various worldwide delegates attending the conference. A must see fascinating building where the rooftop glass shows etchings of Doves from the inside and is fully airconditioned.
