The climate of the four seasons in Hehuanshan National Forest Recreation Area is distinct, and each season has very diverse scenery. In spring, you will see trees growing in green abundance with new leaves. In summer, the cool weather and beautiful sea of flowers of the blooming alpine plants is very attractive. In autumn, splendid red leaves glow, while the winter brings pure, white snow. If you stay in Song-Syue Lodge, you can enjoy the gorgeous glow of the ocean of stars. Transport to this location is convenient so it is a great place to enjoy the mountain scenery of Taiwan.
Did a road trip from Hualien to Taroko Gorge and Hehuanshan before arriving at CingJing. It was long and winding road from Taroko gorge to Hehuanshan with my husband and i dozing off alternatively. There are few rest areas for toilet breaks, however we did not find much cafes or restaurants on the way so highly suggest to take fulfilling meal before or pack some bites. This is by far the tallest spot i have gone to, and i have no regrets. Mother Nature is beautiful, and the view from the top resonates this. Saw some snow on the way to the top also. For someone who loves nature as much as me, believe me when i say that this place is worth the trip as the surrounding is phenomenal!! Weather at the top can drop suddenly so it is advisable to bring thick jackets. It was 17 degrees when we reached, which soon dropped to 6.5degrees after 10mins. My only regret is not being able to watch the sunrise or sunset, but judging from multiple blogs i have read, the view would have spectacular during these times. However, we reached there almost evening and it was magical enough. I would definitely go again, just for the view and the cloud sea!

Green Island is a small island off Taitung. Rounding the island spends less than 2 hours. There are so many different natural ecology on the island, so you can see many different wild animals and plant. It's also famous famous for its beautiful scenery, there are beautiful coral reef, majestic rocks, beautiful white beach. Because it is a volcanic island, there also have hot spring. You can take the outdoor hot spring watch the sunrise and starry sky, and you must be shocked by the amazing sights. That is really great and makes people relax. If you want to travel somewhere for relaxing. I think Green Island is a good choice.

The gondola cable cars take you from the edge of Taipei over 300 meters up to Maokong Station in the mountain range beyond the city. Although there is a ‘crystal cabin’ option with glass-bottomed cars, we took the standard gondola cars in both directions to and from Maokong Station where we stopped for lunch. The views going up and coming back are breathtaking, the panoramic vistas incredible! Highly recommend!

Having a full day to kill due to a long connection in Taipei my wife and I decided to rush down to Taroko Gorge rather than staying in the city. What a great decision!! We caught train 202 from the main station at 6am, arriving at Hualien at 08:15 ($400 TWD return- $22 AUD). Based on other trip advisor posts we booked a taxi driver ( Jason Huang) for a day for a very reasonable $3500 for the car rather than per person (Taiwan; about $160.00 Australian). I hate being carted around on coaches and in large groups, you tend to see very little and it can be quite rushed, so a private hire was a perfect option considering tours were charging around $3500 pp. Our driver, Jason met us at the station as arranged, waving my name on his board, (note head towards West exit of the station and not the east). Jason is a happy chap with excellent English, as it turned out Jason was the perfect guide with very informative commentary on rock formation, the national park and wildlife so I started to feel quite smug about my choice. Our first stop was the Qingshui cliffs, absolutely beautiful known for its plunging cliffs and rugged seascapes, certainly a worthwhile stop. Look carefully in the trees on the walk up to the viewing platform and you will probably see the Formosan rock monkey, which are endemic to Taiwan. There were a number of them feeding in the trees, it was surprising that other visitors walked right passed without noticing them. Our day continued with drive up the mountain range with its spectacular marble walls arising from the Gorge’s base. Our tour stretched from the entrance Taroko National Park up to the incredible Baiyang waterfall trail, taking in the Changchun Shrine, Swallow Grotto, Shakadang Trail and Taroko Archway along the way . Jason was very good at hoping in front of the bus groups so we saw most of the main sites in peace and open to changing the itinerary to meet our requirements, rather than just following the tourist trail, as such we saw what we wanted to see and stayed at a particular spot for as long as we wished. The Shakadang Trail is a road one way shared with pedestrians and traffic but very well managed. The walk is around 2 km from one end to the other but is flat and easy with plenty of places to stop for a breather. Jason dropped us off at one end of the trail and met us at the opposite end. This is a must, there are so many impressive panoramas following the winding Gorge on foot that it’s impossible to stop taking photos- the marble cliff walls are a breathtaking sight and that’s an understatement. Probably second only the Grand Canyon, without question this was the highlight of our holiday. At the entrance to the trail stop and pick up a helmet, which are provided free by the Nation Park Authority, just in case of falling rocks or stones Our next stop was the Baiyang waterfall trail. The trial is a 4.2k round trip, and characterised by a number of tunnels, so take a small touch (Jason provided ours). The hike is very easy and for the mostly flat, the path is well maintained with informative signage on the way. The marble here has incredible the layers and patterns in the gorge walls, there is also large 5-10 metre wide marble boulders sitting in the blue river, sensational. There are great views of waterfalls, plunging cliff faces in the background, along with some colourful bird life, look out for a red tail wagtail, I’m not sure of its name but there we plenty of them and they are very pretty. At the end of the trail you can have an exceedingly cold shower if you wish to visit the Curtain Waterfall Cave (very refreshing I thought), I would highly recommend the cave, it can be a tight squeeze but worth it. My wife had a poncho and stayed dry as a bone. The walk back was as good taking in a different prospective of the scenery. The Taroko National Park is a wonder and should not be missed if you visit Taiwan. The scenery is unparalleled with captivating sights and relaxing sounds of the gorge. It is one trail that you must not missed when at the gorge . We had a fantastic day we were so happy we made the effort, Jason was brilliant and I would highly recommend him rather than a busy tour bus, which I may add looked crowded and very rushed. The ability to stop anywhere in your own time is certainly the way to go. Again, Jason was the perfect guide with very informative commentary on rock formation and wildlife. From 28 December 2019 through to 14 January 2020 my wife and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary on an 18 day Asian tour enjoying short visits to Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Laos and Singapore. Our 6 night private tour of Taiwan arranged through Wendy Wu Tours had hotel stays in Taipei, Taroko Gorge, Sun Moon Lake, Tainan and Kaohsiung. On the last day of our tour we travelled on the west of the island from Kaohsiung (Taiwan’s third largest city and its largest port) back to the capital Taipei; a 350 kilometre easy drive on an excellent highway. On the way we visited the charming old town of Lukang (formerly known as Lugang) at the halfway point. Lukang was one of the really surprise stops on our tour boasting some really wonderful attractions. Our itinerary took us to two excellent temples – Xinzu Temple and Long-shan Temple and to get to both of these we enjoyed a very pleasant stroll along the Lukang Old Street. Lukang Old Street is essentially the narrow, curved, red-tiled lanes of today's Putou, Yaolin, and Dayou streets. Both sides of the street are lined with old-style, renovated shop buildings featuring interesting room layouts and old-style exteriors. There are many shops selling well made handicrafts and lots of street food vendors selling a wide range of novel, local food specialties. We enjoyed our walk passing the many shops and by keeping our eyes opened we were rewarded with some pleasant unexpected surprises. We were fascinated by one shop which had very salty dried cod roe for sale. There were around 70 of these in orderly rows on a rather crudely assembled but effective wooden table. They were elongated heart shaped and parted down the middle by a defined line and brightly coloured orange. Another store was selling a range of candies and biscuits and yet another was offering an eye catching display of what my research for this review has determined to be Tanghulu. Tanghulu, I discovered, is a traditional Chinese cuisine made by stringing wild fruits with bamboo sticks and dipping them with maltose and tasting sweet and sour. The red and wild mountain plants are arranged on bamboo sticks according to their size, and they are covered with crystal clear sugar. They make for a very colourful and tempting display. Finally my wife, who is an ardent cat lover had to take a photo in the store that had its ginger and white cat cheekily making its home in its own cat basket amongst a range of toys for sale. Visitors to Lukang should not miss the opportunity to take a stroll down the Lukang Old Street and share in its unique, old charm. I understand that it can get very crowded on weekends, which is not surprising, given the immense atmosphere of the place. How fortunate then that we were here on a weekday (Monday) when very few people were around. This was a memorable experience.

An amazingly unforgettable pureland with fruitful ecological environment , colorly beautiful landscape and unique culture. We're lucky enough to have the availability to visit, thus with more energy and confidence to move forward to new year. We'll certainly come again asap, at least once a year to welcome the Spring.
