It’s been 200 years or so since he lived here, but Mozart is still very much Salzburg’s favorite son. Visit the composer’s residence and birthplace, then explore the Altstadt (Old City), taking in the baroque architecture. If your musical tastes run more "Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens" than "Requiem in D Minor," catch one of the many Sound of Music tours and follow in the footsteps of the Von Trapps.

An Exvellent Experience! Johann gave us easy to follow directions to making both Apple Strudel and Salzburger Nockerl, which were both delicious, and our creations turned our perfectly. The goulash he served for lunch was equally yummy. All the recipes were provided for us to make later when arriving home. The atmosphere was very unique and a definite highlight of our trip. Don’t pass this experience up! Amazing!

This amazing 11th-century castle overlooks Salzburg from a hill on the outskirts of the city. Fortress Hohensalzburg is a real eye-catcher, high above the Baroque towers of the city. The castle remains a visible landmark to this day and is an unmistakable feature of Salzburg’s world-famous skyline. From afar, the mighty walls begin to reveal the history visitors experience at first hand within these sturdy defenses. Opening hours: We are open for you 365 days a year - even on public holidays! January – April and October– December: 9.00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m. May – September: 9.00 a.m. – 7.00 p.m. Advent weekends and Easter: 9.30 a.m. – 6.00 p.m. Please note: On 24th of December, we are closing at 2pm.
Whether you walk up the road to get to the fortress or take the funicular, visiting Fortress Hohensalzburg is a must-do/see in Salzburg. It's well worth the 13 euro or so (which includes a one-way ride on the funicular as well and a free audio tour). The fortress is very well-preserved, the audio tour and museum offer a lot of interesting history (of the region, the fortress, the rulers over various times, etc.), and the views from the top are stunning. I'd budget at least two hours, but you can easily spend more time up there. From late November to late December, they sell gluhwein, and other beverages and snacks as well.

This elegant shopping street brings to life the atmosphere of centuries past.
This is the main street in Salzburg old part of town. High end brands, luxury names have all found their place here and turned the street into a tourist attraction, even without the shopping segment, the street would still survive on its own simply because its a wonderful part of Salzburg. Very ancient buildings up to 500 years old, you can still see dates, iron windows and gates dating back to the old times. Even Mozart was born here right in the middle of it at nummber 9, and I was fortunate enough to live in an apartment that was 400 years old at nummer 15, right next door to Mr Mozart, it doesn`t get bigger than this. Narrow street that makes you feel enclosed in so much history and culture everywhere you look. Here are no clutter of signposts, so screams from vendors selling their wares, it all hums and goes slowly and quietly in a civilized manner. Wrought iron signs on top of each shop and store tell so much about the taste of the inhabitants of this wonderful city, and from here you can`t help but fall in love with Salzburg. The street could be crowded midday and early night, but really if you want to enjoy the street fully, you have to wake up early and stroll all alone before the crowd hits the street.

This medieval monastery has served as the home to monks for over 1,000 years.
While my husband and I were on a tour of Salzburg, we had some free time on our own, and were walking towards the funicular which climbs up to the Fortress, when we happened upon St. Peter's Church, Abbey, Cemetery and Catacombs. It was amazing! The self guided tour of the Catacombs was especially enlightening. For those who love history and old architecture and learning about different cultures, don't miss this beautiful hidden treasure of Salzburg.

Beautiful gardens and grounds around the main house. The fountains were off as seasonal but the main lake had a lovely Christmas angel there We spent three hours here , they also had a children’s petting area for the Christmas market. Free entry except the weekends, so great fun. The actual market was reasonably priced , unlike some we have been too around the European cities. Nice cafe too offering reasonably priced meals and drinks, great attentive service too We enjoyed walking the garden too and of course seeing the sound of music pavilion
