10 Things to do for Honeymoon in Cork That You Shouldn't Miss

August 24, 2021 Elouise Mccaul

Plan to cross many bridges when in Cork. Ireland's third-largest city began life as an island and now spans both banks of the River Lee, with watery channels running beneath some of its main thoroughfares. The best way to experience this hilly southern seaport is on foot, following the signposted walking tour past St. Finn Barre's Cathedral and the riverside quadrangle of University College up the hill to red and white Shandon Church. Along the way, you'll meet plenty of the city's talkative residents.

Ceili by the Lee

Ceili by the Lee is a traditional Irish social gathering. It's hard to be all things to all people, but we try our best: whether you want to learn to dance in the old Irish style, get fit, make new friends, or simply have the craic we have you covered! Combining the hectic energy of a party in an ocean liner steerage with the nostalgia of a Gaeltacht days fado, this is an activity that won't disappoint! Come along from 8, and the MC will show how they used to do in old Ireland. Neither aptitude nor experience is required, as the Messrs O'Toole are renowned for turning two left feet into a matching pair. A great experience the few times I went! Each week starts with the basic steps, which is great for people like me that need a lot of practice. But it's never boring because of the enthusiasm of the instructor and the different dances every week.

Visited Escape Spa with four friends, absolute bliss. Melissa who looked after our booking was so friendly on booking I knew we were going to have a great visit. We spent an hour in the vitality suite (pool, sauna and steam room), followed by a body massage ( Elizabeth who gave me my massage was excellent and asked which area I would like her to concentrate on). We then had time in the relaxation room, perfect end to our visit. An oasis in the middle of Cork city. I would recommend the Escape to anyone looking for a few hours relaxation in the centre of Cork city. No need to travel any further, just into the heart of the city. We will be back, for sure.

Blarney Castle & Gardens

Situated 8km from Cork City, this historic castle is most famous for its stone, which has the traditional power of conferring eloquence on all who kiss it. The word Blarney was introduced into the English language by Queen Elizabeth I and is described as pleasant talk, intended to deceive without offending. The stone is set in the wall below the battlements, and to kiss it one has to lean backwards (grasping an iron railing) from the parapet walk. LAST ADMISSION IS 60 MINS BEFORE CLOSING TIME/Dogs Not Permitted/Drone Photography Prohibited

Reviewed By rulesnations - Tuscaloosa, United States

Our family had a great trip to Blarney, perfect weather and beautiful grounds are beyond what I expected. I imagine the busy travel season might be tougher on kissing the stone but we only waited 20-30 mins and the walk up is interesting as you read each plaque. The Stone was fine but I never expected the amount of other opportunities to be so good. Kids absolutely loved it, would highly recommend a full day there.

St. Anne's Church

One of Cork's most prominent landmarks, you can enjoy the unique experience of ringing the original 18th Century Church bells, view the mechanism of the famous four faced liar clock, climb the tower to experience spectacular views of Cork City and beyond and visit the beautiful interior of St, Anne's church, one of Cork's oldest buildings.

Reviewed By JohnL365 - Dungarvan, Ireland

A unique experience. Ring the famous bells, even play a tune on them…… that is great fun for all ages. The steep climb up the narrow stairs was an adventure and well worth the effort. The views of the city from the top are spectacular. In contrast to the clang of the bells is the silence in the church. A little cameo stained glass window provides a meditative environment. Last, but the not least, were the very helpful staff who made our little group so welcome. To become a true Cork person, you must visit Shandon and ring the bells.

For womens little christmas this year myself and my gorgeous mother treated ourselves to a spa day at the fota island resort and it exceed our expectations. We enjoyed complimentary use of the hydro pool and thermal suite pre treatments, highly recommend using both and to arrive at least 40mins prior to treatment time. We both booked in for 1hr massages, 1hr facial and scalp treatment. I had kadie who was so professional and amazing at your job. She made me feel completely comfortable and transported me to another world for a couple of hours. The spa is only devine, the facilities, decor, everything is world class. After our treatments we were taken to the scantum, to relax on lounges and given smoothies, fruit and treats while we watched the sunset. It was such a magical day and we couldnt have felt more spoilt. Also just want to thank Gosia the spa manager. Who was so welcoming and kind and we cant wait to return. Do yourself a favour and book now
