Headed out to Deepwater for a day trip from Agnes. Don’t be fooled you will need a high clearance 4wd. The track heading in from Agnes has some sections that are very torn up and rough. There is plenty of soft sand that will catch you out if you don’t pay attention. The drive is amazing though and the beaches are so secluded and beautiful. Great spot for a dip! Great day out if you are looking for something extra to do while in Agnes.

Mon Repos Turtle Encounter is the only ranger-guided turtle encounter available on the east-coast and is instrumental in the research into turtle conservation, specifically the endangered Loggerhead turtles that frequent this beach. Take an unrivalled peak behind the curtain of a natural wonder thousands of years in the making at Mon Repos Conservation Park. Watch as mother turtles lay their clutches of eggs from November – January on a ranger-guided tour at the Mon Repos Turtle Encounter. In January – March form a pathway to the ocean for the baby turtles as they begin their dangerous journey into adolescence with only 1 in 1000 turtles making it to maturity. Come witness a miracle at the Mon Repos Turtle Encounter and create memories to last a lifetime.
This was an incredible experience. Had the honor & privilege of watching a female turtle make her nest, lay her eggs & then make her way back to the ocean.....was truely amazing!! Very professional tour & the guides only had the turtles best interest at heart. The new facilities are fabulous!

Having a great sense of anticipation we started getting concerned that nature wasn’t going to be kind for our evening to view the hatchlings. Eventually just before 10 pm after a 3 hour wait our group was called but alas - no hatchlings, we’d be taken to a dig to see what remained after hatchlings had departed. Fortunately just as we got to the dig site there was a ripple of excitement amongst the rangers and volunteers and there was a turtle sighted exiting the water to nest. This was a month after the last nesting and very late in the season. We had an unexpectedly exciting viewing seeing the turtle dig the nest, lay eggs, laboriously cover the eggs and head back out to sea. Now we’ll have to make sure we return for another attempt to view the hatchlings. Thank you Mother Nature!
