This place is magical from the very first minute you arrive to La Macarena. The town and its surroundings were no-man land just a few years ago because of the civil war ravaging many parts of Colombia. With the recent peace agreement signed by the government and the main guerrillas FARC, many places like La Macarena ca be visited with no safety concerns. A marvelous place, full of wonderful rivers, jungles, plains, mountains and a vibrant local community. Most of the tour guides are local and they know everything from the place, its history, flora and fauna and they are as friendly as any people you will meet in Colombia.

Crab Cay-Cayo Cangrejo

Reviewed By MX213 - Mexico City, Mexico

We were the first ones on the island the day we visited. Not even the cashier was there to charge us admission. As the island is on the east side, it gets the morning sun, which illuminates the myriad colors of the reef and lagoon. It was spectacular — especially since we were solo. The admission is for the full day, so if you do a full day boat tour (as we did) we started and ended the trip there - our boat captain dropped us off around 330 for 1.5 hours of sunbathing on the well-maintained dock steps from the lagoon. It gets popular in the afternoons with kids and locals and the food/beverages were sold out and closed by the time we arrived around 330, so plan accordingly (no water to purchase).

When I was hiking the weather went from warm and sunny to cold, cloudy, and rainy

Paramo de Oceta

Trekking in the paramo de octa Oceta is considered one of the most beautiful paramos in the world. Trekking - Ecological hike, to develop this activity a specialized guide will lead you through this place, with the possibility of doing it any day of the year. Guide the region will guide you through each of its attractions, and will describe in detail each part of this beautiful paramo. Trekking difficulty 6/10 It is recommended to go with children older than 8 years The walks on average last 6 hours and will depend on the physical capacity of the walkers. The Paramo of Oceta is considered one of the most beautiful moors in the world. It is located at 3,800 m.s.n.m. In the western part of the municipality of Mongui. We will start our tour in the main park of Mongui, we will enter the mountain to visit the mythical stone of the Chest that the locals respect for the legends that exist there, we will pass by the Waterfall of Penagos, the Stone City or Lost City, some formations Rocky areas that evoke a city built by nature surrounded by gigantic stones and vegetation. About 3,800 m.s.n.m. We can appreciate the spectacular Laguna Negra. The wonderful thing about this site and what makes it unique is the formation of gardens with these typical species, small enclaves of flora, permanent water factories and shelter of animal species, in short a place that is worth knowing and to conserve .. The other attraction of this place is the City of Stone, a name that was placed by the peasants to this rocky area, where by the detachment of stone floorboards have horizontally separated and have formed alleys that resemble a small town. There the walls are about 15 meters high and about 12 meters wide, they are covered with green, yellow and red mosses, there is also a series of rocks along the paths forming small gardens of micro vegetation in which it gives pleasure to let fly the imagination . In total the alley is about 100 meters long The other element that makes of Oceta a very special place are the peaks whose walls exhibit well defined rock strata, from the central peak you can see the Black Lagoon and the waterfalls that fill it, the Colombian explorer Andres Hurtado Garcia baptized one of these Peaks the ship by its form of great ship, since it rises of the valley in monumental form and its horn seems the bow, and the tail the stern. From these high areas we can also observe in the distance the great Paramo de Pisba to the north. With its almost 4,000 meters above sea level, Oceta has a magical spectacle that, surprisingly, being on the moor, it is very possible that he leaves him in awe and ready to return someday; At times the ghost of the everlasting mist of the 3,000 meters eternal surrounds the environment, and generates with the help of the rays of the sun a multicolored spectacle of beauty without equal. A call from nature to help us conserve. Fauna and Flora As for fauna can be sabaneros rabbits, frogs, Condor, eagles, guatines and white-tailed deer. Within the typical flora that is in Oceta we find the silver frailejones, the yellow ones and the whites, the yellow senecios, purple lupinus, and great amount of moss and lichen attached to the rocks. As for flora are senecios, lupinus, mosses, lichens and the frailejon which is in the greater part of the paramo. The frailejon grows only one centimeter per year and its stem conserves water. recommendations Wear clothes suitable for the climate of moor, raincoat, jackets, cream or face blocker, hats and gloves, spare clothing, camera. As for food it is necessary to carry all food. If you go camping do not forget your tent and a good sleeping bag. Do not forget to leave no litter and do not contaminate water sources.

The Tayrona Park is a must for everyone who love nature and is looking for a real authentic travel experience. We joined with our kids and could handle the whole trip from main entrance until Cabo San Juan... Around 2 hours walk plus some breaks for photos, hidratatión...meanwhile you join lovely views of paradise beaches, tropic landscapes and sometimes curios visitors...I mean here animals and insects... When you arrive finally at Cabo San Juan you will join a beautiful view, a camping area and restaurant close to beach. And the Caribbean ready to refresh yourself. If you don't have time to stay during the night than the best what you can do is join the rest of the day at the beach and asked before one of the horses rentals to bring you back in the last return. So you can join this paradise for a while. It's full of young people you looking for a authentic travel experience. So you can make friends really easy and sharing your travel experiences. Some recommendations : Important to join you need good shoes (good crocs or light tennis), 2liter of water at least, snacks or sandwiches, sun cream, cap, antimosquito spray, cash en Colombian pesos, and you can buy tickets in advanced...form the main entrance you will need a pick up until the real entrance of the path...from there everything is just like in paradise.
