We went here the last weekend in October. The weather was supposed to be meh but it turned out quite nice and Sam's Point was pretty crowded. The park opens at 9, but you need to get here not much later than 9:45 a.m. or you will not get a parking space ($10), and they don't allow shoulder parking on the access road. Trailhead has three toilets and there is always a line. There is a water bottle fill station and a visitor's center that offers a pretty useless map. It's okay because the trails are well marked. The morning started out cold but warmed up. Dress in layers and bring a hat and sunglasses because the trail to Verkeerder Kill Falls is along an exposed ridgeline and you'll get lots of sun along with great views of the valley. We did Sam's Point and the Verkeerder Kill Falls trail (in and out-did not do Ice Caves or High Point). It took us about 4 hours round trip, including a rest and a snack at the falls. We are kind of slow. This is a carry-in-carry-out park. There are no restroom facilities once you get on the trails. The park closes at 6. The Verkeerder Kill Falls trail has nice variety; there are some very rocky sections but you also walk through an oak grove and the view at the falls themselves is wonderful. I brought poles and found them helpful. Hiking boots (not sneakers) are a must because of the rocks. In late Oct. we had no problem with bugs. It's about 600 ft. elevation variatons to the falls and back up again. The walk up to Sam's Point itself is a paved access road and it's kind of boring. The fun starts when you get on the Verkeerder Kill Falls trail.

I always marvel at how good a day of climbing a rock can be, at any level. Alpine Endeavors makes that a possibility any time. They know safety, they know the local cliffs, and they know how to make customers feel like the day was custom made for them (because they can be!). Proof in the pudding? I proposed to my wife while ice-climbing, with an Alpine guide at our side and just returned with our young kids, too!

There are many trails here, all with great views. You can hike to two spots to see the falls, one is an easy hike to a viewing platform that allows you to look down on the falls, and another is a more difficult climb down (and then back up!) a long set of stairs to see the falls from below. Worth it! There is also a longer trail to Inspiration point with spectacular views of the mountains and valley below. We hiked mid-week, but the trails got busy very quickly, especially by late morning. Most people tried their best to move to the far side of the trail when passing and to wear masks.

This was one of the best haunted house attractions I have ever been to! We traveled from Massachusetts to go here because we found it on many best of in the USA haunted attraction lists and it certainly didnt disappoint! The attention to detail was incredible and each house was so well themed and it was so nce that we got to go in each house ourselves and they were great about spacing groups out. Many jump scares and again was so impressed with the attention to detail! My favorite was the haunted Motel and Hospitals!

Giant Ledge Trail (part of Panther Trail) - 1,5 mile This trail leads you to a truly amazing view on the Catskills area. After following the easy and sometimes steep rock path you’ll find yourself on a ledge taking in this wonderfull scenery. At the start of the trail is a parking spot with the start of the trail located on the other side of the road. The first part (0,7 mile) is rather challenging but certainly doable if you are in a regular fit condition. After that the path is more flat with occassional climbs, mostly with helpfull (rock)step-ups. The spring (somewhere around 2/3 of the trail) is a nice break in your hike. To find it, make sure to stay on the same level, you don’t need to go through the narrow rock area and climb up. Now, you can finish the last part and enjoy the breathtaking view. Take it in, make pictures, but be very carefull and make sure you’re safe taking selfies!

Come to the "real" summit of Hunter mountain (not what the ski lodge personnel thinks is the summit!). On the summit you'll find a 60 foot tall fire tower with a killer 360 degree view of the Catskills and for miles beyond. Hike up one of the 6 trail routes to the summit or ride the chair lift when it's open in the spring/summer/fall. From the lift its a moderate (2 mile, +800 foot climb) to the fire tower. The chair lift itself provides a great view of the surrounding scenery to the north, west, and east of the village of Hunter. On weekends between Memorial Day and Columbus Day weekends there will be a volunteer on the subject who has opened the fire tower cab, will answer questions, and let you go into the observers cabin to look around. the trails are well marked and easy to follow. For more information just Google Hunter Mountain hiking or some other appropriate subject.
