The Lloyd George museum is situated in the heart of Llanystumdwy, the village where Lloyd George was brought up as a child. The museum itself tells the story of his life, from humble beginnings, to becoming one of the greatest British statesmen of the twentieth century. He is known as the man who; taxed the rich to help the poor, gave women the vote, introduced National Insurance and Old Age Pensions, led the country to victory during the First World War, and was instrumental during the peace talks at Versailles.Visitors can also step back in time and visit the Victorian cottage Highgate, his boyhood home, and his Uncle's shoemaker's workshop next door, which is joined to the Museum by a footpath through a Victorian Cottage garden.His grave is also located in the village, just a short walk up the drive from the Museum, he is buried in the woods above the river Dwyfor. We advise visitors that they may need at least an hour and a half for their visit, as there is the Museum itself to see, the cottage Highgate, and also a half hour film summarising his life and achievements.

Museum is now closed for the winter but will reopen on 25 May. depending, of course, on the regulations at the time. When opening is possible we will continue to offer visitors the opportunity to book timed-entry visits, as well as being able to come in without pre-booking if the numbers in the Museum at the time permit it. Bookings are now available on Eventbrite. As you would expect, safe-distance requirements and all the other Covid-safe measures will be in place. The Museum gives a great insight into the woollen industry, its boom and bust cycles and the effect on the development and growth of Newtown during the 1800s. It covers the story of wool from fleece to flannel, and tells the story of the families who lived and worked in this rare building from that period. It opens during the summer months.

SWAM is a new unique Aviation museum based in South Wales near the former RAF St Athan. We allow visitors to get up and personal with our aircraft and displays, with different aircraft being open. We are only currently open at weekends and bank holidays, and while we have free parking, there is a suggested donation for adults of £5. We have a cafe and a shop with there is limited disabled access.

Our exciting news is that the museum’s roof is being repaired, but we have had to close to the public for about 12 months. We would like to apologise for any disappointment which this may cause and we do look forward to welcoming you again early in 2021. Airworld Aviation Museum offers the opportunity to get close up to some historic aircraft. Set on an active airfield, the museum houses iconic machines such as the Hawker Hunter, D.H. Vampire, along with the only T2 BAe Harrier remaining worldwide. Unusually, visitors may enter the cockpits of some of the aircraft and find out what it is like to sit in the narrow confines of a jet fighter aircraft. Part of the museum is devoted to the creation of the RAF Mountain Rescue Service, started here at RAF Llandwrog in 1942, whilst other sections describe the wartime airfields of North Wales. The gift shop sells model kits, remote control helicopters, quadcopters (drones), rockets and souvenirs. Free car parking on site, well behaved dogs welcome. The airport has a cafe run by the Wales Air Ambulance staff.
