Kedah (Malay pronunciation: [kəˈdɑh]; Jawi: قدح), also known by its honorific Darul Aman or "Abode of Peace", is a state of Malaysia, located in the northwestern part of Peninsular Malaysia. The state covers a total area of over 9,000 km², and it consists of the mainland and Langkawi. The mainland has a relatively flat terrain, which is used to grow rice. Langkawi is an archipelago of islands, most of which are uninhabited. Kedah was called Kadaram (Tamil: கடாரம்; kadāram) by ancient and medieval Tamil people and Syburi (Thai: ไทรบุรี; RTGS: Sai Buri) by the Siamese when it was under their influence.

Very few tourists visiting Langkawi know about this place. You need to take a taxi or charter a car to come to this hidden diamond of Langkawi. All the beautiful collections of Dr. Mahatir, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, are on display in the 3 excellent display halls. The architecture of these 3 halls is very distinctive.

Went back to Malaysia for visit with my 3 UK born children and husband, was taken to visit paddy field last week - very impressed! Just never expect in Alor star there is a museum like this, the beautiful drawing give a good insight of kampung Malaysia feel which I was totally in love with. The entry is very cheap, I wish they charge more so the maintenance can be keep going.

I read an interesting review here on Tripadvisor and staying on the west side of the island I decided to walk there. It was definitely not a waste of time. I entered the free museum and asked for a guide and this man offered me a one hour free tour. I learned about how rice is cultivated and farmed as well as all the local spices and coconuts. A really interesting tour which was awarded with a good tip...

We had a great Sunday lunch, local Malay food well presented with big rice sieve as serving tray. Banana leaves I think add to the authenticity and taste. I wanted to eat rendang, choice of duck, chicken, beef and lamb (shank). Nice looking over the padi fields. We had lamb rendang, great flavour and highly recommend with condiments and side dishes.

Since the resident tiger was relocated to new grounds (please search "Animal Adventures - Langkawi), Raccoons have since "invaded" the cafe. Raccoons are now on exhibit on a daily basis to keep guests entertained while they sipping on the best coffee on Langkawi
