Busan is Korea's second largest city. Tourists often come to this region to hike and to visit the Buddhist Temples located deep within the region's mountains. The Beomeosa Temple, founded in 678 AD, is perhaps one of the most frequented temples in the area and is always packed with worshipers and tourists. For art buffs, Busan offers several museums and historical buildings. If scenery is your thing, try visiting the Dongbaek Island, or bird watch at the Nakdong river estuary.

Optical Illusion Paradise, Trick Eye Museum in Busan Trick Eye Museum brings a new concept of culture and entertainment space, where visitors can explore 3D optical illusion paintings and installations by “becoming one” with the artworks. Trick Eye is shortened from ‘Trick of the eye’ and refers to a traditional art technique Trompe-l’oeil that turns two-dimensional paintings into three-dimensional images through the use of optical illusions. Paintings on museum walls, floors and ceilings come alive! Visitors are invited to step inside Trickeye paintings and installations and create their own original stories.

Busan Museum is a true gem worthy of visiting. Actually the staff was very friendly and appreciative of seeing us there. (still no English - but at least friendly) :) Conveniently located behind the museum is the UN Memorial Cemetery - 재한유엔기념공원. Therefore these two activities can ba tackled in one shot. In our experience this is a full day or minimum a half day activity as there is so much to see in both sites. But the UN Memorial Cemetery - 재한유엔기념공원 review will come right after this one. We were told that the Busan Museum, offers seven regular exhibition rooms spread over its three floors in addition to the Kiln Exhibition Hall, and the Outdoor Exhibition Hall. But the day we went some of the exhibitions were not available as it is winter and the museum was peculiarly empty. Opened in 1978, the museum has taken on a leading role in preserving traditional culture in Busan and we had word that the museum preserves the local culture, by obtaining a wealth of relics from strong excavation efforts, generous donations and purchases, and by meticulous research. The background history of the museum states that it was remodeled in 2002 along with the opening of Exhibition Hall 2. The wide array of relics ranges from the Prehistoric Age to the modern period and much more. They have an interesting array of artifacts such as clothing, writings, water painting technique papers (very common of South Korea). Also furniture, stones, cooking prehistoric items and more. The Outdoor Exhibition Hall is home to precious pagodas, Buddhist statues, and monuments. This can be found in the way up the hill when you go your way to the UN Memorial Cemetery - 재한유엔기념공원, which I told you is unique and its review will come later. There are over 6,000 impressive items from excavations in Busan and the Gyeongnam area in addition to items that have been purchased, donated, and collected. Those relics reveal the important historical and cultural heritage of Busan. This place has also a neat coffee shop with a nice old lady that makes her own cookies and serves tea. The furniture in the coffee shop is antique itself and the atmosphere very relaxed. We have been very pleased of touching down here after the bummer visit to the very disappointing Gamcheon Culture Village. Now as planned we will walk through the gardens of the museum building our way to the UN Memorial Cemetery - 재한유엔기념공원. I am sure it will be a memorable experience.
