10 Sightseeing Tours in Anchorage That You Shouldn't Miss

April 30, 2022 Sachiko Swiger

Set amid the coastal Chugach Mountains, Anchorage defies popular visions of polar ice caps and frozen tundra. It’s also warmer than you think (averaging 65 degrees in summer), making conditions ideal for sight-seeing or taking on uniquely Alaskan opportunities like arctic biking or touring the fjords of Prince William Sound. In the winter, you can ski, dogsled or do both simultaneously by "skijoring," which is cross-country skiing while being towed by a dog. Hey, it's no crazier a winter sport than the biathlon.

Amazing! Bryan is so awesome at this brewery tour stuff. This was my husband’s 1st and my 2nd tour with Big Swig and we could not be more pleased with our day. Bryan started things off right by communicating (by text) several days before to let us know the plan for lunch and for pick up. Picked us up at our hotel and took us to the train station. The train ride was fantastic... food, scenery, drinks! Bryan was waiting at the station like he was anxious to see us... not waiting in the van. Four different breweries, four fun experiences. We all had our favs but all were great in their own right. Dropped off back at our hotel with huge smiles on our faces. One last note... Bryan was super knowledgeable about beer, breweries and Alaska itself. Can’t wait to do it again!

Getting to remote locations in Alaska means small airplanes. Our group needed to land on a beach south of Anchorage. Not a problem, just have to schedule for low tide. The crew picked up our group at our hotel and drove us to their operations. We hired two aircraft to carry seven people and all our of gear. The pilots made the hour or so flight enjoyable with stories. Highly skilled pilots smoothly landed on the beach.

We had a quick visit in Anchorage and wanted to explore and learn something about the city. Alice was a lot of fun and gave us a great experience and such a short period of time. Make sure to ask questions and get recommendations for your time in the city. Her singing was the best part.
