It is only a 30-minute train ride from Taipei railroad station. If you like pottery and ceramics, you can easily spend a few hours there. Only some stores take credit cards though, so ask in advance. I would suggest to go around once and make mental notes of what you like or not and try to compare prices (they are about the same). I personally do not like things that a mass-produced (i.e. things that you see in many stores). Rather, I found things that are unique and only available in one or two stores. But that's just me. If I could carry more, i would have bought a lot more stuff. Very happy there.

West Coast Line trains stop here. The service is run by the Taiwan Railways Administation (TRA). The High Speed Rail (HSR) does not stop here. Some express trains do not stop here, so check before you board. Yingge is about 30 minutes from Taipei, going south. It's a good-looking station, built initially during the Japanese coloinal period (1895-1945) -- it opened in 1901. The station was upgraded in 2003. The station is walking distance to most attractions, about 10 minutes to the Ceramics Street, also the Old Street. Ceramics Street has improved in recent years, it has cafes and restaurnts, plus ceramics which range from the sublime to the gor blimey. It's not far to the Ceramics Museum, which will interest cermaics afficionados. You can your EasyCard for travel to and from Yingge on the TRA train..
