10 Sights & Landmarks in United Arab Emirates That You Shouldn't Miss

January 31, 2022 Nicolette Lion

Nomadic tribal heritage and modern society co-exist in the UAE, a federation of seven emirates at the southeastern edge of the Arabian Peninsula. Look beyond the desert that consumes four-fifths of its area and you'll find UAE capital Abu Dhabi, an oil-rich city of skyscrapers, parks and malls, and Dubai, with its split personality of luxury resorts and covered marketplaces, upscale boutiques and local artisans. For a break from urban sprawl, journey over rolling red sand dunes into the Hatta Mountains, where the 200-year-old Sharia Mosque sits amid 30 restored buildings of sandalwood and mud.

DO NOT MISS THIS. we have been three times now ands still staggering to see. We did a day trip from Dubai especially to see this mosque, and we were not disappointed. It is stunning. Beautiful white marble (with inlaid floral design), the largest carpet in the world, stunning chandeliers, beautiful water pools, 82 domes, exquisite design and yet peaceful & worthy of prayer. It is definitely the highlight of my trip to the UAE.

Suwaidi Pearls

The Suwaidi Pearls pearl farm is located in the small fishing village of Al Rams, which nestles at the bottom of the majestic Al Hajar mountain range in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE. Established in 2005 by Mr. Abdulla Al Suwaidi, the world’s first Arabian pearl farmer. For the first time in history, the region is now farming Arabian Pearls in the surrounding seas. This historic development links the past to the future and is the defining journey from historic natural pearls to the pearls of the region today. Suwaidi Pearls had opened its doors to the public to share the unique cultural heritage of the pearling industry, explaining the historical evolution and inviting guests to see the underwater treasures of the natural lagoon. Rich in biodiversity and an area of outstanding natural beauty, all around are the gifts of nature. The area is a garden of paradise and a magical place that brings a serenity to the surrounding area.

The whole family loved it! We booked the tour departing Al Rams fishermen marina at 16:30 and enjoyed the afternoon breeze. Iftar was optional as Ramadan had started, but we did not book it. I’d recommend the tour to anyone, interested in the local tradition of pearl diving or cultivating pearl oysters. Thank you, Suwaidi Pearls team, for your hospitality and sharing your knowledge & passion!

This is a very family friendly event, great for young children. The highlight of the trip was our tour guide who was passionate, witty, easy going and fun loving. Whilst I loved the visit, here are my suggestions: - have two types of tours - family (targeted to those with children under 10) and adults. - have more information about the farming. I was so eager to see and learn about the chicken farm, but due to the risk of infection we weren’t allowed to go near the hens. A live streamed video in the waiting area with the key facts would have been a great idea. - get rid of the plastic! For an organic farm, to receive my dine in juice in a plastic disposable cup and straw was a bit out of character to the message they were conveying. - add more animal interactions. I loved the goats at the entrance. They are the most well loved, friendly and fed goats in the region! But some more animals around would have been a hit. I.e ducks, a camel, a cow, a few unquarantined chickens, horse and donkey. - to expand the tour, show the composting process, the planting process etc. have a longer tour where you can harvest more (pay for what you pick) and plant the new crops. Total time spent - 2 hours.

My partner and I visited Dubai last week and what an amazing trip we had. The place is packed with lots of fabulous places to see and things till do. The people are extremely friendly, it’s a very clean environment and may I add I felt very safe here. But the highlight of our trip was non other than visiting The ‘Burj Al Arab’ for afternoon tea in the ‘Sky View Bar and it did not disappoint! This was a breathing taking experience from the exquisite food to the spectacular views. I booked the afternoon tea for my 30th birthday treat online and corresponded via email with ‘Kamal’ who replied to any questions and queries I had regarding my booking. He was extremely professional and prompt with all emails that I’d sent. He even managed to meet and greet us on the day of our afternoon tea and give us a tour of beautiful hotel and showed us around, to which was outstanding and we throughly enjoyed. Our afternoon tea was delightful, we over indulged in lots of fabulous cakes, sandwiches, scones, teas etc and I even managed to receive a birthday cake and a beautiful red rose from our very attentive waiter Robbie, such a lovely guesture. The interior and exterior is out of this world and it is absolutely pristine!! I would thoroughly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Dubai and we hope to return in the future. Thank you Burj Al Arab & Kamal, you made our experience one we won’t forget for a very long time. Back in rainy Ireland and missing Dubai already! Many Thanks Louise

While we stayed at the St Regis on the Corniche we decided to go for a walk as the weather is beautiful this time of the year. The Corniche is basically the waterfront of Abu Dhabi, it has a long stretch on the waterfront, beautifully landscaped with walk ways and bicycle lanes. A few cafes as on the walk which is so beautiful and relaxing. You can even rent scooters and return them to various pick up locations. Definitely try it out.

Burj Khalifa

Described as both a ‘Vertical City’ and ‘A Living Wonder,’ Burj Khalifa, developed by Dubai-based Emaar Properties PJSC, is the world’s tallest building. Rising gracefully from the desert, Burj Khalifa honours the city with its extraordinary union of art, engineering and meticulous craftsmanship. At 828 metres (2,716.5 ft), the 200 plus storey Burj Khalifa has 160 habitable levels, the most of any building in the world. The tower was inaugurated on January 4, 2010, and is responsible for a number of world-firsts. The tower became the world’s tallest man-made structure just 1,325 days after excavation work started in January 2004. Burj Khalifa utilised a record-breaking 330,000 cubic metres of concrete; 39,000 tonnes of steel reinforcement; 103,000 square metres of glass; and 15,500 square metres of embossed stainless steel. The tower took 22 million man hours to build.
