The National Memorial Arboretum is the UK's year-round centre of Remembrance. With 150 acres of beautiful woodland and gardens to explore and over 300 unique memorials to see, you're sure to be fascinated by our many memorials and the amazing stories and symbolism behind them. Entry is free. To help you make the most of your visit; guided walks, tours and trails, learning activities, exhibitions, a restaurant and a gift shop are also available.
We visited in October 2020 and fortunately it was a sunny day, so the outdoor experience was a pleasure exploring the wide range of memorial gardens in peace and tranquility. Covid 19 restrictions were in place, so you needed to book to eat in the restaurant, fortunately we were able to get an "on the spot booking". Coffee shop limited to two groups at any one time, so pace was a little slow. Food and drinks in both places were excellent quality - local Burton Brewery Ales available in the restaurant. I was surprised to be told that all the memorials were not in the guide book. There were 370 on the day we visited - the guide book said 330 - so new additions are plentiful. I was pleasantly surprised at the wide range of memorials in addition to the Armed Services Memorial which is particularly poignant with 16,000 lives lost sine the end of WWII. For example the loss of 250 Falkland Islanders in addition to the 237 armed services personnel was an education to me. I'm sure you will learn something new if you visit.

A fascinating site that gives you a real chance to get to grips with the steam technology that drove the Industrial Revolution. Four large beam engines, nearly 30 other steam engines, large steam driven workshop where you can “have a go”. Only 1/4 mile from A38 Burton North junction. Brown signs from junction but not on A38. DE13 0DA.
Victorian engineering on an awesome scale. Absolutely fascinating, and made all the better by the great passion and depth of knowledge of the volunteers responsible for the terific restoration of the three beam engines that were in steam. Also thrilled to discover that work on the fourth engine is now under way. Will definitely be visiting again to see how that progresses. Worth mentioning that there are a large number of smaller steam engines in full working order that serve a variety of ancillary functions associated with the main beam engines. Could have stayed all day!

Statfold Barn Farm, located close to Tamworth in Staffordshire, is the home to the Statfold Barn Railway which, under the guidance of owners Graham & Carol Lee over the last fifteen years, has grown to become what must be the most significant collection of narrow gauge locomotives in the UK. With over 30 steam locomotives and many internal combustion locomotives, representing most British and several overseas manufacturers. With the recent establishment of the Statfold Narrow Gauge Trust the future of this unique collection is ensured beyond the lifetime of its owners. As well as our public open & enthusiast days, Statfold also offer Driver Experience Days, educational tours & special events including Santa Express Trains, Halloween Steam & Scream and much more..!
Really enjoyable day out to a local railway that we didn't know existed until a few months ago. Went to' Road and Rail' weekend and was amazed to see how many engines were in steam all day, with options of tram ride or just meandering around the site and museum. Ample, well organised parking and the whole site itself was clean and very well marshalled. Covid 19 measures were excellent, with plenty of sanitiser points and staff cleaning everywhere. Highly recommended and well worth a visit

Chatterley Whitfield is an industrial time capsule and is widely acknowledged to be the most comprehensive surviving example of a deep mine site in England. Here at Britain's biggest remaining colliery site, which has been designated by Historic England as an Scheduled Ancient Monument. Open 1st Saturday of every month
We went to the heritage open day on Sunday we started in the waiting area where there were lots of historical items to look at with regard to the mining industry, when you look at the collection you think to yourself how did those men and boys survive in those days with the working conditions. When everyone was there exactly on time everyone had their hard hats on ready to start the tour just before we moved off these 3 miners who looked the real thing had a bit of a comedy acting just to make everyone welcome any give the tour an air of realism for what you were going to see on your tour. So we set off with our guides who had a vast wealth of knowledge to the history of the colliery and the other mines in the area, it was sad to see how the museum has changed since the closure, the most interesting part of the tour was to see the original maps of the coal fields which were mostly hand drawn there were no printers in those days i was so impressed that i became a member there and then also i have found out that the members meet on a Saturday morning once a month to do various restoration projects which i am seriously looking at doing some volunteering with this brilliant group.

Just a short walk from home this is a fantastic location for leisure visits for all the family. Lots of trails for all and just fantastic views, the choice of entry routes is endless, we often walk along the canal and then into seven springs before heading to Marquis Drive or Birches Valley, just the tip of what this area has to offer

An Ancient Cathedral Full of Life & Wonder There has been a Cathedral in Lichfield for over 1300 years and its story is one bursting with history, art, culture and life. If you're looking for rich heritage, ancient artefacts, and stunning architecture then Lichfield Cathedral has it all. Lichfield Cathedral's story doesn't end with its past, it is very much alive with a vibrant programme of services, events and art projects to capture the imagination of all ages.
About thirty minutes drive from Birmingham there is a large car park nearby. Visiting the Cathedral is free. The guide book is £5 and they offer free tours which I highly recommend. This is one of the best cathedrals I have ever visited with a long history going back to Saxon times. Every corner reveals something new and the history was so interesting especially the civil war siege. Highlights include the Saxon bible and statue of an angel, the Zulu shields and the medieval wall paintings. The tour lasted about 90 minutes and was so interesting. Highly recommended.

Whilst there is plenty of exhibits for visitors to admire in this free museum as a carpenter/joiner and latterly building surveyor I was fascinated at the construction of this hewn English oak timber framed building.

We are a small, family owned childrens farm, which has been operating for over 30 years. We have lots of friendly farm animals, mostly undercover so weather does not cause any problems, we also have The Big Play Barn on site, which is a newly built indoor soft play centre. The Big Play Barn has its owe review page on trip advisor and you can look at their web page and facebook for more info. The farm is Ideal for all visitors who love animals and wish to have close contact with them. Plenty of handwashing facilities, ample free parking and activities throughout the day. The main daily activities include holding a baby chicken and bunny, go on a egg hunt to find a freshly laid egg from the Hen House, sit on the pony or shire horse! We also run the tractor and trailer ride everyday and children get a bucket of feed for the animal (except horses). There are extra activities that we put on thoughout the year and we also put on special events days so look out on facebook page and on our webpage for more info. On our farm we have falconary centre which puts on displays everyday (weather dependant) and we breed our Shire Horses in our Shire Horse Centre. All the activities are included in the farm admission price
Lots to do and see, good selection of animals including all the farm animals, some birds of prey along with bunnies and chicks. There's also a massive indoor play area along with outside play area and air cushions. Picnic areas, places to eat + gift shops
