Sligo (Irish: Sligeach, meaning "abounding in shells" — /ˈslaɪɡoʊ/ SLY-goh; Irish pronunciation: [ˈɕlʲɪɟəx]) is a coastal seaport and the county town of County Sligo, Ireland, within the western province of Connacht. With a population of approximately 20,000 in 2016, it is the second largest urban centre in the West of Ireland, with only Galway being larger. The Sligo Borough District constitutes 61% (38,581) of the county's population of 63,000.

I always go up the back way so cant say anything about the new walk way. Its a lovely easy climb and the views are class on a nice day

Killaspughrone loop walk is an easy walk with its spectacular scenic route along the waw. Amazing views of Strandhill Beach, Ben Bulbin, Coolera Peninsula, Coney Island, Sligo Bay, Killaspughrone Church (which dates back to 5th century) and Knocknarea Mountains,the home of Queen Meave's grave. Its a stunning coastal walk would highly recommend it.

Get the leaflet at the visitor centre and do the self-guided tour- many intriguing passage tombs - one of the largest neolithic burial sites Probably best for people who thrill on archeology We enjoyed our visit.

A really excellent cultural and exhibition centre,worth a visit if you are visiting Sligo.It also has a very pleasant coffee shop and very friendly staff.Exhibits vary.

We live in Kilkenny, so we have Jerpoint Abbey close by and St Canice's Cathedral in Kilkenny, but if you appreciate your history the cloisters in Sligo Abbey are a must as there are three sections more or less in tact and you get a definite feel for the times when it was built. We would highly recommend an hour here and at only a fiver to get in it was well worth the price
