This temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is located in a small village (Keladi) near Shimoga. From outside the temple looks very ordinary but all beauty of this place is after you enter through the main gate. You will realise that the pillars are made of wood. Inside is an ancient 1400 old structure with Shiva Linga. Alongside the Shiva temple is a Parvati temple with very beautiful roof carvings made of sandal wood. The temple priest explained to us the history of the temple in brief and said that the Linga was put there by Lord Rama himself.

I am aghast that Karnataka tourism development authority does not promote this gem. My wife & I weren’t aware of this until my aunt & uncle took us there. This 11th century temple was built during the Chalukya rule, with some 12th century additions during Hoysala rule. The architecture & sculpturing are spectacular. The temple is located near the town of Shikaripura, about an hour’s drive from Shimoga. One can stay at Shimoga or at one of the several homestay options. We stayed at Ajjana mane, a very nice homestay near Talaguppa. And from this homestay, one can easily access several sightseeing places - the 11th century Kedareshvara temple, Balligavi is 90 minutes drive; the 16th century Aghoreshvara temple, Ikkeri is 30 minutes drive; the 16th century Rameshwara temple, Keladi is 30 minutes drive; Jog Falls is 30 minutes drive.

Medium sized well maintained temple. Must visit place if you are interested in historic Hindu temples. One of those off beat and out of popular tourist circuit. Place bear in mind that this is a functioning temple and basic decorum needs to be followed in accordance with Hindu sentiments. The temple architecture is splendid. Big intricately carved pillars, the huge Nandi in addition to numerous typical Dravidian architecture are the highlights. The temple can be covered within an hour. The outer temple premise is also used for pre wedding candid photo shoot.

A must visit attraction near Thirthahalli. A ruined Fort with a lot of artifacts still standing in good shape! A tiring yet fantastic trek up to the peak. Ideal to do it early in the morning. Later in the sunny day it can get really exhausting. There are no amenities, food and drink options at all nearby. So need to carry packed stuff.

This was a Great experience for my wife my daughter and myself. The drive from Shimoga to Agumbe and back( in the night) was something we really enjoyed. You will not find enough sign boards to locate the view point. Keep going on the Agumbe Manipal road to find the check point, where you can leave your vehicle and walk.
