The largest of the twelve Dodecanese islands on the Aegean's eastern edge, Rhodes is also its most popular. The well-preserved medieval city of Rhodes sits at the north of the island of the same name. High rise hotels line the northern and eastern coastlines. Small villages and resorts dot the island's other shores. Whether your interests are beaches, bars or ancient sites, Rhodes offers an abundance of all three. Authentic Greece can be found in the hilly interior of the 50-mile long island.

Largely rebuilt by the Italians this is a very beautiful building - lovely views from the windown and lots and lots of interesting stuff for history buffs - beautiful mosaic floors nicked from Kos. You do get a feel for how the palace was during the crusades.

For a small charge, this Synagogue provides entrée into the remarkable life stories of the Jewish people of Rhodes. The interior of the Synagogue is beautiful with its pebbled floor and light filled interior. It provides a calm and contemplative space to reflect on the generations of Jewish life revealed in the adjacent museum.

I looked for the little church ,I had to ask a Greek about its location in a very narrow medieval street ,the entrance seemed to me so strange .I had read about the saint Fanourious and about the lost icon .Once inside I was amazed by the small dimensions of the church ,rebuilt in the 14 th century ,just on the site where the icon of the saint was discovered .It was so dark inside ,I tried to take a few photos ,two young Greeks were praying inside and they told me that the saint is protecting the people who lose their items .I was impressed by the medieval frescoes .The church is open daily ,9-12 ,16-19 ,free admission.

Thursday the 30th May we were out exploring and sightseeing in Rhodes when we came across this beautiful Greek Orthodox Church. It is situated a short walk from the Casino and Mandraki Harbour . There are a number of eyecatching features about this splendid building, the first being it's tall narrow bell tower topped with a cross. The red tiled arched windows in the roof of the building cannot be missed. There is also the large cobble stone courtyard at the front of the Church. The inside is rather spectacular with the ornate alter and it's icons, religious symbols and images. There is a rather large chandelier adding to its splendour. Very interesting Church both inside and outside, all together very beautiful. Admission to the Church was free, however, as a mark of respect visitors are requested to wear appropriate clothing when entering the Church. Definitely worth visiting when in sightseeing in Rhodes.
