Every neighborhood in San Francisco has its own personality, from the hippie chic of the Upper Haight to the hipster grit of the Mission. The Marina district boasts trendy bistros and postcard-perfect views of the Golden Gate Bridge, while Noe Valley offers quaint and quiet boutiques. Wave hello to the sea lions at Pier 39, and sample local cheese and charcuterie at the Ferry Building. Sit in on a yoga session in Dolores Park or marvel at the Dutch Windmill across from Ocean Beach.

Most of this neighborhood's former beatnik charm is retained while adding fine cuisine to its claim to fame.
My son and I were in North Beach for the afternoon. We went for lunch as well as checked out a few of the shops. Then we walked south on Columbus Ave to City Lights Bookstore which is THE COOLEST! Highly recommend!

I visited the National Shrine of Saint Francis of Assisi. It is in the North Beach - Chinatown area of San Francisco. It was founded June 17, 1849. It was the first parish church in San Francisco as well as the first parochial school. The first ordination to th priesthood was held there in 1852. I visited during the Christmas holiday season so nativity scenes were up as well as poinsettias It was very pretty. The archietecture, religious statues, and; tall column struce of the cathedral are all nice to see.

One of my favorite North Beach restaurants (Cafe Zoetrope) is in the Sentinel Building. As such, I very much like this bullding. It is in the North Beach area. The Building also known as the Columbus Tower is a flatiron type building. It survived the 1906 earthquake.

The Top of Broadway business community represents one of the oldest and continuous commercial cultural and entertainment corridors on the West Coast. This district has a very rich history of music and adult entertainment, with venues that have been frequented by millions over the past 130 years. Formerly known as the Barbary Coast, this area is distinct as a special sub-district of the North Beach

Near City Lights Books, we wanted to check out Language of the Birds. Such a cool light installation in North Beach. Look up or you may miss it!
