Where else can you find an azalea-framed volcano to climb, a sisterhood of deep-divers, and ancient stone statues on which to make wishes? Jeju Island. A favorite with newlyweds (and K-drama fans), this popular retreat is also home to miles of golden beaches, winding coastal trails, and Jeju Waterworld, the area’s largest water park. No matter what your fancy, one thing is for certain: a day of sightseeing isn’t complete without enjoying some of the isle’s delicious raw seafood and famed barbecued black pork.

Beautiful Temple, friendly monks and helpers, they even let us strike the bell, stunning. Very handy for Jungmun resort.

One can have a magnificient view of basalt stone pillars formed along the coast due to sudden cooling and solidification of the Lava which flowed into the sea. The sudden contraction of molten lava due to the cooling effect of water has resulted in these rocks splitting into polygonal columns and forming a coast of almost 2 km long. This attraction is worth the visit and can be reached directly by trekking from Cheonjeyeon falls or taking a bus and pass thru the garden (Jusangjeollidae Promenade) and then reach the cliff at the end. Walking around the garden would be relaxing and one should not miss it. Wooden Platforms have been built to reach the end of the cliff and for a better view of the coastal line.

We visited Udo Island in October 2016 and took the hop on hop off bus and got off at the first stop to climb up to the peak where the lighthouse was. The climb took about an hour and though there were steps and a well travelled path, it still required some physical effort. There were hardly any trees and you would be well advised to wear a hat and sun block. Wear comfortable walking/hiking shoes and bring plenty of drinking water. We climbed to the peak on a hot sunny day and had to stop a few times before we reached the lighthouse. The view was worth our effort. Then we climbed down to the surrounding park, which was basically grassland with minimal trees and hardly any shelter. There were lots of other tourists. We saw some horses grazing here and could see across to the mainland and sunrise peak as well as parts of Udo below. This is the most enjoyable part of UDO for us and highly recommended.
