Avenue of the Giants

Reviewed By radar60 - Lompoc, United States

Avenue of the giants is a stunning 32 mile scenic drive through magnificent redwoods and meandering eel river vistas. Plenty of groves where you can stop and go for a hike to admire Mother Nature’s incredible beauty. We stopped by the drive through tree but our vehicle ( VW Atlas ) was too wide. Still a drive worthwhile taking.

Redwood Highway

Reviewed By SailorSuzan - Seattle, United States

I recommend visiting a 'visitor's center' for the Redwood National Park to get an overview of the collection of land parcels that make up the Redwood National and State Parks so that you can appreciate what's left of the giant redwoods. Even along US Highway 101, there are easy on/off to enjoy glimpse of some great groves. Remember there is only 4% of the original forest left - hence the collection of small parcels, but still incredible.

Newton B Drury Parkway

Reviewed By GreenCoast71

Ok, so perhaps not quite as amazing as the Avenue of the Giants, but you'll be driving thru this area anyway to get to the Avenue so why not stop?!? I admit, we almost didn't and I'm so grateful that we had! We had our two small children with us, aged 8 and 5, neither of which are much "hikers". There were still several trailheads to pull over and take leisurely strolls thru some magnificent, ancient trees. When (not "if"!) we return I will plan on spending more time exploring more of the turn outs. I can see one easily spending a full day here, if not more. Highest recommendation for those that are driving through this stretch of the Northern California coast and have the time for a very worthwhile detour!

Lost Coast Scenic Drive

Reviewed By daverY6897DU

The stretch of road that tumbles down out of the hills between Petrolia and Ferndale is breathtaking. The coast is rugged and raw and beautiful. We had a picture-perfect day to explore after a heavy rain the night before, so encountered only a handful of others out there. Fantastic!

Ferndale Historic Cemetery

Reviewed By tankergas - Oceanside, United States

The layout of the Ferndale Cemetery is on a hill with a winding road. It is located 2-3 blocks from downtown and can be walked or driven through. I preferred walking. There is a nice view of the cemetery, 2 churches and surrounding neighbored at the upper portion. The hill, church views and layout makes this a unique and inviting cemetery. I highly recommend it for Ferndale visitors, especially ones who love historic cemeteries.
