Glenrothes ( listen (help·info); /ɡlɛnˈrɒθɪs/, glen-ROTH-iss; Scottish Gaelic: Gleann Ràthais) is a town situated in the heart of Fife, in east-central Scotland. It is located approximately 30 miles (48 km) from both Edinburgh, which lies to the south and Dundee to the north. The town had a population of 39,277 in 2011 as recorded by the census, making it the third largest settlement in Fife and the 18th most populous settlement in Scotland. The name Glenrothes comes from its historical link with the Earl of Rothes who owned much of the land upon which the new town has been built; "Glen" (Scottish for valley) was added to the name to avoid confusion with Rothes in Moray and in recognition that the town lies in a river valley. The motto of Glenrothes is "Ex terra vis", meaning "From the earth strength", which dates back to the founding of the town.

Balgonie Castle is the home of the Laird of Balgonie & Edergoll. Balgonie Castle is in the heart of the Kingdom of Fife and is over 700 years old. The Morris' were the first in Fife to secure a Civil Weddings Certificate. We have been a filming site for Outlander and an inspiration for the Game of Thrones Red Wedding Scene.
My wife & I we’re very lucky to be the last couple who would exchange vows inside the chapel of this lovely castle. We had the greatest day with our family & friends, in which we cant thank the Laird & Lady of Balgonie Stuart & Kelly enough for their hospitality on the day itself, not to mention all the help & advice they provided during preparation on the built up to our special day. Balgonie Castle has a great historical story situated in a lovely part of Fife for anyone who is honoured to take a tour of the grounds, remember to keep a look out for the green lady.

Murphy has always enjoyed his hotel break at Balbirnie House, the best bit was his walks in the park, lots of interesting trees and squirrels, good paths away from nosey cars and plenty of room to explore, plus may have brought an odd leaf back into the room
