Dongguan is a prefecture-level city in central Guangdong Province of South China. An important industrial city in the Pearl River Delta, Dongguan borders the provincial capital of Guangzhou to the north, Huizhou to the northeast, Shenzhen to the south, and the Pearl River to the west. It is part of the Pearl River Delta megacity with more than 44.78 million inhabitants at the 2010 census spread over nine municipalities (including Macao) across an area of 17,573 square kilometres (6,785 sq mi). Dongguan's city administration is considered especially progressive in seeking foreign direct investment. Dongguan ranks behind only Shenzhen, Shanghai and Suzhou in exports among Chinese cities, with $65.54 billion in shipments. It is also home to one of the world's largest, though largely empty, shopping malls, the New South China Mall. Although the city is geographically and thus culturally Cantonese in the Weitou form and as well as culturally Hakka in the prefectures of Fenggang and Qingxi, the majority of the modern-day population speaks Mandarin due to the large influx of economic migrants from other parts of China.

I just got back from visiting Dongyue Temple and Park in Chashan Town, Dongguan City, China! The temple and park are not too far from where I work. I took a DiDi taxi from Liuhua Park area. I walked into the temple through the ornate entrance with statues of horses and fancy Chinese dudes! I snapped several photos and even made a video (check out my YouTube channel for the video). After exploring the temple for a few minutes I was greeted by a Chinese teenage girl. She greeted me in English and welcomed me to the temple. She introduced me to an older lady, maybe her mother, who only spoke Chinese. The young teenage girl translated for and her mother. Together showed me around the temple complex. The lady taught me how to burn incense and bow three times at the different shrines. The horse statue apparently grants you more money which I really need! :) Such nice people! I didn't have any RMB on me to donate to the temple for their hospitality, but I did have some Macau Patacas leftover from my visit so put them in the donation box! Awesome temple located in such a nice park across the street from a bustling modern shopping mall! The lady said the temple is 800 years old! I highly recommend visiting, especially if such gracious hosts willing to translate into English are there on a regular basis! I wish I caught their names! So nice! Definitely explore the park behind the temple. There is hill with a pagoda at the top! Definitely worth climbing the stairs to see the view of Chashan Town!
