This 13th-century fort includes a number of preserved Byzantine churches, including the 13th-century Church of St. Mary of Vllaherna and the 14th-century Church of the Holy Trinity.
Take a guide, worth it! An amazing living castle. People still live here, beautiful houses, businesses, souvenir shops, ruins, mosques etc. Beautiful view of the city. highly recommend!

Berat is a fascinating medieval town in central Albania. Beneath the commanding hilltop fortress lies the old town divided by the Osumi river into two neighborhoods - Gorica and Mangalem. Mangalem is the part right beneath the fortress and is predominantly Muslim, while across the river is predominantly an Orthodox quarter of Gorica. Both communities live in harmony and peace. During the Ottoman era, those not willing to embrace Islam, had to pay higher taxes to retain their religion. Both neighborhoods are fantastic to explore with unique architecture - houses so close one to another, set on an elevated terrain one window above the another, hence the city's nickname "town of 1000 windows".

The castle and its fortified village, to be visited absolutely. Breathtaking views. A bit difficult to get to the fortified village because the road is very steep

Here you can see the locals hanging out with their entire family plus their relatives. You'll also see vendors selling sunflower seeds, sour plums, popcorn and other snacks. It reminded me of my hometown in Iraqi Kurdistan.

This is a nice bridge connecting the old parts of the Berat across the river. The bridge itself is fine - fairly attractive and interesting. What sets it apart and makes it a must-see site is the views up and down the gorge of the river and across the facade of Berat - a strikingly beautiful site. I highly recommend walking out onto the bridge and spending some time taking in the scenery in every direction.
