Wester-Amstel: Country House and Park Since 1662 is a piece of serenity located just a bike ride away from Amsterdam. It's located on the banks of the Amstel River and at the last river bend before Ouderkerk. Wester-Amstel is the perfect destination to escape the city and venture into the surrounding countryside. Our house, park, and gardens are enriched by four centuries of history. We highly recommend our audio tour (available in English and Dutch). It will take you on a wonderful stroll through our estate and entertain you with stories of times long past. The benches and picnic spots will give you the perfect excuse to just sit back and relax. We heard about Wester Amstel through a friend and decided to give it a go, over last weekend. Must say, it was one of the most fulfilling experience I have had with my family in Netherlands. The estate is a hidden gem that unfolds itself if you start exploring it. From fruit orchard to flowerbeds, from old farm house (with an incredible and interesting history) to oak plantations (and a mini cozy tea house in the corner), it is a truly enriching experience that transports you to a unique natural and historical feel. The owners and staff are equally hospitable as the total environment. They take a personal pride and interest in showing around and sharing stories about the history of entire estate in a very engaging way (of course if they are available). Our daughter had a specially great time picking pears and apples from orchard and running behind chickens. All in all a great day we spent and would love to visit time and again.

A must visit when wandering around the Bos, where the kids can wander freely amongst the goats, pigs and chickens, feeding them and brushing the goats. Also a good play area and maze to run around. Fab restaurant to enjoy local produce.

The Clara Maria Cheese Farm and Clog Factory is set in the pastoral polder landscape just southwest of Amsterdam. This historic 160-year old farm creates an inviting atmosphere for visitors to step back into old-world charm. The original barn has been charmingly transformed into the wooden shoe factory and the cheese making room, with a spacious, nostalgic gift shop that has a large variety of Dutch souvenirs. Visitors are welcome to drop in for a tour and to taste a variety of our delicious, freshly made cheese.
Our family had the pleasure of spending a few hours at Clara Maria last weekend. We had an absolutely AMAZING time! Not only did we get to learn all about clogs, make and taste cheese, and enjoy coffee and yummy dutch apple pie, but we also got to know the farmer, Kees-Jan, and his wife, Katrina. They are incredibly warm and welcoming! This is not a commercial type place, this is a working family farm. Kees-Jan took our kids out to the hay barn to climb through the tunnels, let the kids pet and feet baby cows, and spent a lot of time telling us about how things work on the farm. The entire staff treated us like family and welcomed us with open arms. We stocked up on yummy cheese, several Holland souvenirs, and left with smiles on all our faces. It was absolutely the highlight of our weekend in the Netherlands. We will absolutely be back!

This is the local shopping mall/centre for Amstelveen. It is spread across several buildings with no less than 9 entrances/exits. It has a Albert Heijn (bottom level) full grocery story with loads of main stream stores such as Hema, Etos, Starbucks, Kruidvat, and many clothing and shoe stores. Ensure that you download the FREE app for the shopping centre, it entitles you to free parking and discounts at a lot of the stores. It is also a Pokemon Gym (Im not even sure what this means or that people actually play this game?!?) which means that every weekend loads of people stand around in the way playing Pokemon, apart from this its excellent. Most stores also have their own discount/savings card, be sure to ask for their card. There is also plenty of bicycle parking. Market day is Friday all parking is limited (car and bike) and the market fills to entire centre area. There is a play area for children and a junglegym outside the shopping area. This shopping mall has everything you could never need or want.
