Liaoning (Chinese: 辽宁; pinyin: Liáoníng ) is a province of China, located in the northeast of the country. The modern province was established in 1907 as Fengtian or Fengtien province and the name was changed to Liaoning in 1929. It was also known as Mukden province at the time, for the Manchu pronunciation of Shengjing, the former name of the provincial capital Shenyang. Under the Japanese-puppet Manchukuo regime, the province reverted to its 1907 name but the name Liaoning was restored in 1945 and again in 1954.

The Pavillion is a great, big, beautiful mall in downtown Dalian and now it has a Tim Horton's. It's a ten minute walk from the train station or a short taxi ride for about two dollars, Canadian, and the first floor now features a coffee and donut place familiar to Canadians that is proving to be a huge hit with people in Dalian. From the hockey sticks used for door handles to the toy moose souvenirs sold inside, not to mention the donuts, bagels, and Timbits, this place is like a Canadian embassy. It's more upscale than any Timmys I saw anywhere in Canada. And they have Montreal smoked meat on a bagel! Oy gevalt, it's great!
