The largest city in Switzerland is a major contemporary art and shopping destination. Important artworks are displayed in the Kunsthaus and the Rietberg Museum, while those who consider shopping an art can hone their skills along Bahnhofstrasse and Niederdorf. Chagall's stained glass windows in the Fraumunster amaze and Zurich's 500 clubs and bars, including several in swimming pools, pulse with life 'til the early hours. This popular bakery has several stores throughout the city.
A lovely informal café / restaurant in the centre of Zurich, about half way down Bahnhofstrasse between Hauptbahnhof station and the lake. Downstairs is an informal café bar, cake and chocolate shop - well worth a browse and a purchase! Upstairs is the café proper and often you have to join a short but quickly moving queue. You are shown to a table and service is quick and efficient. This is a well oiled operation! Unsure what to have, go for the café gourmand which is tea or coffee of your choice, two small patisserie style cakes and a truffle chocolate. Just what you need mid morning or afternoon. Service, crockery, cutlery, table layout are all excellent. The place is very busy but you are looked after. For anybody who knows the excellent small Betty's chain of cafes in Yorkshire then this is Bettys on steroids!

Need to shop on a Sunday when all of the other stores are closed? Not to worry, they are open here... groceries, clothing, electronics... It is easy to get to the station via train or tram. In addition, during the Christmas season there is a wonderful market inside the station with food, gifts, and a beautiful Christmas tree.
