The Elephant Seal Viewing area and the Friends of the Elephant Seal Visitor Center and Gift Shop (250 San Simeon Ave, Suite 3B, San Simeon, CA) are two separate locations. They are 7.2 miles apart. Please plan to visit both while you are in the area. Directions to both locations: https://elephantseal.org/locations/ The Friends of the Elephant Seal docents (guides) provide education for visitors to the Elephant Seal Viewing area at Piedras Blancas, every morning and afternoon, 365 days a year. Long boardwalks provide wonderful, up-close viewing opportunities. Look for docents in the blue jackets! Viewing Area is located 4 miles north of the Hearst Castle. My wife and I actually drove passed this stop and turned around to go back because we noticed a large group of people. We are glad we decided to turn around! When we got there around 6PM, there were a couple dozen elephant seals basking in the sun on the beach. Every now and then, you’ll catch one get up and stretch or another scooting across the sand to a new spot. It was surprisingly amazing to see these gentle giants in their natural habitat and was definitely a highlight for us both on our trip.

Artifacts Gallery represents the country's leading artists, both in sculpture and paintings. We have a unique blend of art, sculptures, gifts, jewelry, glass, and garden decor. We also have a custom frame shop for all of your framing needs. Established in 1993, Artifacts Gallery is a large, fine art gallery owned by Thad Markham, in business at this same address for over twenty years. We are located in the historic coastal community of Cambria, California, midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. This small village (population 6,500) on the unspoiled Central Coast is nestled in the Monterey Pine forest along spectacular Highway 1. We're serious about art, but that doesn't mean art is always a serious business! Our gallery is a welcoming space with art consultants who treat everyone like a new friend. Our well-informed, friendly staff has one mission: to help you find the art you love that will make your home a beautiful expression of your personality.
this place has unique art from a variety of artists. very unusual, some whimsical, some Goddards at reasonable prices. Really excellent and worth a stop.

Cambria's premiere nursery, florist and gift shop. Find everything from garden basics, indoor and outdoor plants, professional florist services and charming home decor and gifts here!
This is a great place to visit. The plants and flowers always look healthy and vibrant. There are little areas to explore, including a lovely gift shop. Their location is divided nicely into various areas...succulents, blooming plants, garden accessories. It is a fantastic place to visit in December when Cambria is having their annual Christmas Market. The employees are very helpful.

We stopped in to just look around, but then noticed the jewelry and stayed much longer than anticipated. The silver chains is what really interested us and the owner was super accommodating. We ended up going back the next day to buy more. There is much more than jewelry to this gallery; I recommend stopping in.

Sebastian's in Old San Simeon Village, across Highway 1 from the entrance to Hearst Castle, is a well-known casual eatery. Serving up the very best Heart Ranch burgers, salads and sandwiches - guests from all over can enjoy a bite to eat on the deck with an ocean view or inside the cafe with historic photographs of the Hearst Ranch and Castle. Our historic building has been a general store in the village since 1873 when Leopold Frankl opened one to sell supplies to whalers, miners, dairy farmers and those who transported products in or out by ship.
Excellent food and wine! We had amazing burgers made with Hearst Ranch beef and shared a bottle of wine. Friendly and casual!

Great little cookie shop set in a trading estate. Cookies made on the shop floor and there’s a few to choose from!

This place is about cookies — unique and delicious cookies that, as the name implies, feature butter and brown sugar as their primary ingredients, along with sea salt that sets up a great sweet and salty taste combo. Our family loves them. Their signature cookies come in a variety of flavors — including almond, cocoa, espresso, and vanilla. A special flavor is added several times a year — on this visit it was bourbon (very good!). In addition they sell very good traditional cookies, such as chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, lemon, snickerdoodles, and peanut butter. The cookies aren’t inexpensive. But there are two things that mitigate the cost — first, they are flavor intensive, so just one cookie, slowly enjoyed, is a great snack; and, second, they are very generous in their offering of free samples, so you know exactly what you’re getting, even if it’s just the free tastes and you can buy one cookie or as many as you want, in whatever combination of flavors you’d like. Prepackaged combinations are available — these make great gifts for family and friends. A small gift rack offers some other branded merchandise, such as t-shirts. The staff are more than friendly. There is no reason not to go in here and at least enjoy a couple of the free samples. We will return.

Decided to stop by before dinner for a wine tasting of local wines. The shop is really cute with lots of fun accessories. The tasting itself was very reasonable (1$ per tasting), with lots of great local wines to try. The woman serving us (Sherry) was super friendly and very informative, and while we hadn’t intended to buy more than a bottle, thanks to her great information and company we left with 6 bottles! Looking forward to drinking them with friends over the next few days.

Ephraim Pottery strives to be the modern incarnation of the traditional artisan guild. Though our roots are in the American Arts & Crafts revival we work together as artists to create timeless artwork that is classically inspired by our natural surroundings yet thoroughly modern. The Cambria gallery is a dream come true for our Wisconsin based studio. Come see our work in person!
We love Mission style anything, and this pottery shop has some of the most beautiful pottery we have every seen! Wish we could afford to buy a whole houseful of it!
