Artists's Loft Gallery

Workshop M.K. Anikushina

Mikhail Anikushin’s Sculpture Studio is a place where fine samples of soviet monumental art were made. Now it is a memorial museum and a modern exhibition hall. A former studio of a famous 20th century sculptor Mikhail Anikushin is a specific architectural space with professional equipment. The big exhibition hall astonishes with air, high ceilings (9 and 15 meters) and huge windows. A big modeling stand, a pointing machine, a clay pit and other instruments show every stage of sculptor’s work, from a paper sketch to casting a bronze monument. Mikhail Anikushin worked in this building for 25 years. The Lenin’s Monument on Moskovsky Prospect in Saint Petersburg, the Monument to the Heroic Defenders of Leningrad, Chekhov’s monuments as well as other portraits and memorial sculptures were made in this studio. Nowadays you can visit memorial rooms and modern sculpture exhibitions. Anikushin's Studio is a branch of the Museum of Urban Sculpture.

ARTMUZA is a museum of contemporary art and the largest creative cluster in St. Petersburg. In 2013, the premises of the former musical instruments factory "Muzdetal" turned into an association of creative people in the field of painting, sculpture, design and interior, transforming the industrial building into a cultural place for creativity and recreation of residents and guests of the Northern capital. We have two buildings, four floors, gallery desks and many residences: theater, artists' studios, dance, music, art and design studios and schools. Areas from 50 to 1000 m² - loft, galleries, bar, residences. We change expositions every month, we conduct free poetry readings, concerts, master classes, meetings with famous people, open talk, watching movies and other events. We have created a creative atmosphere for you. And we open the roof. For you will work a scene, lounge - zone, a cinema, a cafe and an observation deck of 1500 m².

I was looking for a contemporary museum in St. Petersburg and was recommended to the ARTMUZA museum by a friend - also like ERATA on Vasilyevsky Island. As I found out, this was a former musical instrument factory. Works by various artists can be viewed over three floors. But it is not just the works on display that are to be viewed; the entire building is a single work of art that is bursting with creativity. There are many small shops, offices and stores that fit harmoniously into the overall structure. The stylish cafes invite you to take a break. All in all a great concept that should be seen. Admission is free.
