10 Shopping in Kreuzberg That You Shouldn't Miss

May 19, 2022 Brain Ambrose

Berlin is an edgy city, from its fashion to its architecture to its charged political history. The Berlin Wall is a sobering reminder of the hyper-charged postwar atmosphere, and yet the graffiti art that now covers its remnants has become symbolic of social progress. Check out the Weltzeituhr (world time) Clock, topped by a model of the solar system, then turn back time by dining at the historic Zur Letzten Instanz, a 16th century restaurant that was frequented by Napoleon and Beethoven.

Boxoffberlin

A great, unexpected find in the touristy area surrounding Checkpoint Charlie is boxoffberlin a/k/a bob. It's an amazing mix of an design store, art gallery and espresso bar. The store offers extraordinary souvenirs and cool gifts made by local designers and crafts people, a long way from the mass produced selection in the other shops in the tourist areas of the city. Definitely a place for that unusual Berlin gift. The back space of the shop is a gallery with changing exhibitions of contemporary art, films and more from Berlin based artists. A fascinating place since 2007.

Considering all the sightseeings you can have in Germany Berlin is the most strategic one when it comes to the heritage of the Soviet culture due to its history and location. This shop is relatively young compared to several other similar stores in Berlin, but its reputation as a favourite is truly well-deserved. It is an easy walk from the U1 line at Kottbusser Tor or Görlitzer Bahnhof. The selection of techno, electronic, house, disco, jazz + more is smart and varied. The owners definitely are up on their vinyl knowledge. The prices are very reasonable, and there are plenty of used items in the lower bins for surprisingly good prices! They have 3 listening stations, but it's better to come earlier in the day when less people are shopping. It's also a great place for picking up flyers and meeting people in the local scene. I still constantly find gems here and would highly recommend it.
