Coffee drinkers will recognize Kona as the source of some of the best beans in the world. Get your blood pumping with a walk along the “Royal Footsteps” waterfront stretch of Alii Drive, or take stargazing to the next level with a nighttime visit to the summit of Mauna Kea. Waterfalls, volcanoes, and soft black sands are just some of the natural features that make Kailua unique. Shimmy your hips at a hula-filled luau, or get an eyeful of native history at the Kamakahonu compound.

Hours can be spent happily here looking at the gorgeous Hawaiian and batik fabrics, stitchery kits, yarns, buttons, and talking with staff who are knowledgeable, nice, and kind hearted. We arrived to see the quilt museum, which was closed, but the lady at the shop counter had a key and took us on a private tour. How cool is that!

Vivid, bright colored paintings and prints depicting Hawaii, sports, aquatic life and our favorite Dogs. A master artist. We bought to small prints for our family, both of coarse featured dogs. Quite memorable.

Mrs Barry's Kona Cookies. Featuring Award Winning Macadamia Nut cookie, along with 12 other delicious flavors, just like your Mother or Grandmother use to make. Open since 1980. A Delicious Way to Say "Aloha"
Located in an industrial area near Costco and the airport, this cookie shop makes the best chocolate-dipped (milk or dark) shortbread cookies. There is a small parking lot or you can find street parking. It was our 1st time visit, so we bought both types of choco-dipped shortbread cookies and a bag of mixed cookies (to try the variety) for omiyage to family on the mainland. OMG, everyone went nuts (no pun intended) for the shortbread cookies! Although pricey ~$1/cookie, they are the most authentic & delicious treats from HI. Make sure you bring enough back because your friends/family will be clamoring for them and they will be gone in no time. There is no shop in Honolulu but you can buy these cookies online. We gassed up our car rental at Costco, stopped by Mrs. Barry before heading to the airport. They survived the flight in our hand-luggage. However, next time, we will have to check them in else they'll be eaten up on the flight home.

This has moved to the Queens Marketplace in Waikoloa, and the information on trip advisor needs to be updated. I suspect prices may be up as a result of the location but there is no question as to the quality of the images. Beautiful.

Since 2005 we have been providing everyone a truly natural soap made entirely in Hawaii. Natural base oils and we only use essential oil scents. We never use artificial ingredients, fragrances, or preservatives. Come try a sample at the Alii Gardens MarketPlace. Also come visit our farm in Holualoa. Sign up buy clicking the button above. We have a five acre farm where we grow and produce Kona coffee and Hawaiian chocolate. It's about 2 hours and interactive. Informal and questions encouraged. Read the reviews online. We'd love to have you visit. There is a private flagship store on the farm as well and we have a lot of great things all made in Hawaii. ALOHA
So much to see and learn at this little Kona farm. Greg the owner is a delightful and very knowledgeable coffee and cacao entrepreneur who will constantly amaze you with his extensive skilled knowledge of Hawaiian farming. He describes every detail of his farmland starting with the chicken family to the amazing family farm with his knowledge of all botanical trees and plants with such passion. It was truly an excellent experience in learning how to create the best natural Hawaiian products, including jojoba oil, numerous natural soaps, coffee, chocolate and Greg’s personal pottery.

Incredible floral creations that look so realistic you’ll bend over to sniff them! Nana’s has a large variety of clay creations in many price points that are very reasonable for the artistry. Don’t miss it while you are on Ali Drive.

We go back home every 2 years or more frequently, and we always make our way to this wonderful used & new book store! We enjoy the selection, and the prices. We go early on in the trip with the hopes to return books we've read for a receipt to purchase mores. Rarely do we return our books. This trip I bought 8 books. A few that are Hawaiian cultural and historical reference books. There is a wonderfully unique listing of Hawaiiana literature, by , about, and for the peoples of the Hawaiian Islands before and after first contact with the West. The other books I purchase are all novels. I bought 3 by the author Lois-Ann Yamanaka... great insight to the life and times of na keiki (children) of the Big Island. I highly recommend her. I also bought another by Bushnell. If you like to read... and don't want to live by an itinerary while on vacation, stop into the Kona Bay Books and get your read on! Victor (Wikoli Kelekolio)
