If your interest in Moroccan souveniers is scarfs and tagines, this shop is not for you but if you are looking for authentic cultural pieces from Morocco's past, you will spend a great deal of time in Mustafa's shop. Named for his mother, Galerie Jama is a trove of unique one of a kind items from the full spectrum of what Morocco has to offer. Ceramics/leather/wood work and textiles of all kinds. the shop is 4 stories and you need to take the trip up the tight stairs remembering to keep your head down! Mustafa is a true collector and you need to engage him in conversation and feel free to talk about what interests you. This is not a store to barter in like so many shops in the medina but in the course of the conversation and as you establish interest in an item you should be able to negotiate a limited discount. A lot of what you will see is "high quality" so if that's beyond the interest for what your looking for.... use the experience to educate yourself on what can be available. I can gaurantee you will not be disappointed. Mustafa is a gentlemen and a profesional. there is no pressure here. Hope you make it to Essaouira and to Galerie Jama

I was in Essaouira last week as part of a two week trip to Morocco. I love jewelry and it was so interesting to watch the artisians work and to understand better what is takes to make quality silver jewelry. My experience with the people working there was very memorable....I actually had another piece of silver jewelry I had purchased elsewhere in the country which was not made very well. My sweet sales person offered to have one of the silversmiths work on trying to fix it and they did that for me...no charge. We all had hugs afterward and it was a reminder of the general spirit of the Moroccon people And I love the earring and bracelet I purchaed at this shop. Don't miss it! And what a beautiful town.

Said Ouarzaz, an artist of recognized talent (twice exhibited in Arab World Institut (Paris), King museum of Antwerp,... until Singapore & China), is there permanently: a retrospective of more than 100 paintings is in progress; this is THE EXHIBITION TO SEE in Essaouira. Le Real Mogador was the highlight of our visit to Essaouira! It is a stunning building with absolutely beautiful artwork. I went back 2 times within my stay. The owner is lovely and very willing to let us view the unique artwork. A very special experience!
