Someone is usually in the shop, if not, either call up to the window ... Francesco! ... or call the son, Giovanni! who runs the shop and speaks English. In the shop, they sell all types of pottery using the unique designs from their collection for the table and home furnishings, wedding gifts and plates, and more. They also do custom table service in the antique style or from a piece of art that you like. If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of Rome, Italy, you must consider visiting Deruta Perugia, Specifically, a quaint and wonderful old world ceramic shop called Antica Fornace Deruta. It is a multi generation, family owned ceramic shop, which includes many new and antique hand painted ceramics. There are two kilns in the shop that are hundreds of years old. It is very interesting. The shop owner, Giovanni, is a warm and welcoming breath of fresh air. No hard sell here. I purchased many pieces of ceramics, that Giovanni graciously packed and shipped to the US for me. All pieces were received unbroken. Deruta is a mid-evil town, with a town square, where you can sit and enjoy an Italian cup of coffee and maybe meet a local or two. The drive to Deruta, from Rome, is gorgeous!

Maioliche Pia

Maioliche pia , Original Deruta Ceramics , realities dreamed for the house! Exclusive Pottery all painted by hand

Reviewed By Q6364KHrobertp - Warwick, United States

As I planned my trip to southern Umbria I made certain to include a stop at Pia's shop. I went to the store in Daruta. It was clean, neat and filled with just what I was looking for: Top quality, artistically painted ceramics. I am a stone carver. (I incise letters into slate, think headstones). So, I truly appreciate outstanding, hand made work -- regardless of the medium. And Pia is a top rate artist -- and a gracious, delightful host. While I did not expect to buy anything, I was so taken by Pia's work that I ended up purchasing lots and lots of pieces.

MOD - Original Deruta Majolicas

M.O.D.'S ceramics are sold the world over and the company has long been established as one of the most innovative ceramics manufacturer in the city of Deruta. Its modern history began some 50 years back when its gifted founder, Antonio Ranocchia, along with his wife Delia, decided to set up an independent operation following a number of years of employment in some of the best known Deruta ceramics manufacturers of the time. Along with our standard production, we specialized in the production of artistic tiles, available both in single pieces to make frames, mirrors and compositions, and in real artistic tile-panels to be placed as a backsplash in the kitchen or to make very artistic and "unique" bathrooms. Among our references, we were selected by the Italian Sovrintendenza alle Belle Arti" to reproduce special Renaissance-style tiles to cover the famous "Fontana dell'Ovato" in Villa d'Este, Tivoli. We are also well-known for our limited production of some series of artistic table-lamps faithfully reproducing masterpieces of great painters of the past, such as Brueghel the Elder, Canaletto, Raffaello, Tiziano, Corot, etc. We are also highly specialized in the production of patio-tables in all sizes. Everything is manufactured inside our 3000 square metres-building where 15 people work everyday. Tours of the factory in Italian and English with demo of all the different steps needed to obtain a piece of pottery are given from monday to friday for free.

We dropped in “Maioliche originali” last September, looking for presents to bring back from Deruta, a place known for its ceramics since the Middle Ages. We expected a gift shop but we found ourselves in a showroom that looked more like a gallery than a shop. The place was full of lovely ceramic pieces, in traditional (in some cases the patterns were 800 years old) and contemporary design. There was much for every taste, from individual objects (we were most interested in tableware) to whole dinner sets and even tabletops. The choice of objects to bring back was quite difficult. The owner, however, was very kind and patiently answered all our questions about the origin of patterns and manufacture, and thus facilitated our choice. In fact, she even invited us to visit the workshop, where we were able to follow the manufacturing process from the raw material up to the finished product. If you happen to be in the area of Assisi, do take a detour. It is definitely worth a visit.

CF Ceramiche Favaroni Carlo Deruta

Reviewed By Kscott_Odessa - Tampa, United States

My husband and I found Ceramiche Favaroni accidentally while wandering the streets of Deruta. We were so overwhelmed with the many beautiful ceramic patterns and pieces that it was difficult to select a favorite. We settled on their Pavoncella pattern and have set many beautiful tables with tableware we purchased in three visits to Deruta and through emails. In person and virtually, Carlo and Gabriela are beautiful, friendly and talented people. Everything we have purchased has been perfect and has arrived carefully packaged. In addition to tableware, we purchased a tile to hang in the entrance to our home, wedding plates for our children and a crescent shaped "first stone," wall piece for our home.

We wanted to visit the Grazia factory because of its known excellence. We were not disappointed. We were warmly welcomed by Stefania who showed us around and carefully explained the artistic process. Dr. Ubaldo Grazia chatted with us and told us about the factory's history over the generations and centuries. The showrooms were filled with beautiful hand-crafted ceramics. An unparalleled artistic experience that I will remember each time I look at the gorgeous maiolica pieces I acquired there. This is the place!
