10 Shopping in Covent Garden That You Shouldn't Miss

March 11, 2022 Weston Hennigan

The crown jewels, Buckingham Palace, Camden Market…in London, history collides with art, fashion, food, and good British ale. A perfect day is different for everyone: culture aficionados shouldn't miss the Tate Modern and the Royal Opera House. If you love fashion, Oxford Street has shopping galore. For foodies, cream tea at Harrod’s or crispy fish from a proper chippy offers classic London flavor. Music and book buffs will love seeing Abbey Road and the Sherlock Holmes Museum (at 221B Baker Street, of course).

Born and bred a Londoner, I qualified as a London Blue Badge Guide and City of London Guide because of my passion for London and my wish to show visitors and Londoners round this diverse, exciting and historical capital city. As a Blue Badge guide I can take guests into Westminster Abbey, St Paul's Cathedral and the Tower as well as other world famous sights, galleries and museums. I lead walking tours in different areas but also walks with themes ranging from Royal, Financial, Legal, Musical, Best of British, Street art, Fashion, Food, Shops, Markets and the Olympic Legacy. My aim is to inform but also to focus on the fun and vibrant side of this fabulous city. I am qualified to lead tours to other main attractions outside London.

Neal's Yard Dairy - Covent Garden

Neal's Yard Dairy select, mature and sell farmhouse cheese from the UK and Ireland. We work with about 40 cheesemakers. We visit them regularly to taste their cheese with them and select the batches we want to mature and sell. Flavour drives how we sell cheese. We have learnt that different palates and markets have different tastes. When you buy cheese from us, whether you are buying on behalf of a food hall or for a family meal, we encourage you to have a taste of some cheese with our cheesemongers and tell us what you think. Your feedback is invaluable to us and the cheesemakers we work with. The essence of what we do has changed very little since our founding director Randolph Hodgson began seeking out farmhouse cheesemakers to supply our first shop in the early 1980’s. We believe that the time and energy we invest in understanding cheesemaking, selection and maturation gives us the necessary experience to source much of the best cheese available in the UK and Ireland.

No wonder the little shop was packed with customers. There was quite a selection of British cow, sheep and goat cheese. The assistant was knowledgable, friendly and quick. He didn't hesitate to offer various cheese pieces to taste and choose from. A very positive experience.

The Tea House

Our family run business has been shining the light on the amazing diversity of tea since 1982 when we opened our iconic flagship store in Covent Garden. Started by original Covent Garden pioneer Christina Smith, the business has been handed down to her niece and nephew and remains an independent family business to this day. The Tea House has been an iconic attraction in Covent Garden since it's opening in 1982 and has seen visitors come from around the world to experience the vast range of exciting and interesting blends that grace the shelves of our London Tea Shop. The Tea House has become synonymous with high quality loose leaf tea and that's what keeps our customers coming back. We know many of our customers personally and take great care in choosing blends that we know both new and existing customers will enjoy.

Old fashioned street with book stores and small art stores. Collectors books available from Alice in Wonderland. My favourite shop with two floors was the holistic and religious book shop. Sadly on a Saturday it appears that about 8 of the shops were closed. But worth a visit and imagine you are in Harry Potter or living a century ago
