With half a million people, Nuremberg is Bavaria's second largest city. While its history dates to the 11th century, Nuremberg is most often linked to the 20th century (specifically World War II). It first served as the site of many pre-war Nazi rallies, then was nearly leveled by Allied bombing, then was the site of the famous post-war Nuremberg Trials. The city has much to offer today's visitors, including the rebuilt Nuremberg Castle and the world-famous gingerbread at Hauptmarkt. Hansel and Gretel would have loved this place.

Evas Teeplantage is a family owned teashop, based in the old city of Nuremberg since 1985. Alexander and Julia Poetsch, the owners of the independant tea shop, focus on high quality grean and black teas from India, Japan, China and Thailand. In tea workshops and seminars they give their guests all important information about their beloved drink and let them try their best teas for themselves. Evas Teeplantage.de sells over 420 teas to countries all over the world. Not only Europe, but also to the U.S. and, funnily, sometimes back to Asia, too. This is a peak into the life of a great market. We were here on a Friday night and in addition to the market there were all kinds of street vendors. It was so much fun. The stalls were full of fruits and vegetables. There were vendors selling the ubiquitous sausages and street performers. You must try the local ginger bread sold from the vendors (and maybe from a few vendors). This was just a lovely couple of hours that gave the feeling of "old Europe".

Lovely shop right off the main square in Nuremberg. Helpful multi-lingual staff ready to answer questions and wrap up any purchases. They have custom designed nutcrackers, smokers, and ornaments. Most items are Christmas oriented but other holidays are also represented in smaller selections. I particularly liked knowing that most of the items are exclusive and that they sell several location-specific items. Their pricing is a little higher but fair for the quality. For instance, I was able to purchase a Nuremberg specific glass ornament that was a step above the quality and design work those found in the standard tourist shop. This store is part of a chain, but they produce almost everything in their private workshop outside Rothenberg. If you are in the market for a fine remembrance of your trip to Bavaria this shop is worth a stop.

This is not your typical "new book" bookstore. Yes, the owner keeps it stocked with many standard new titles. However, it is so much more than that. There are fascinating titles in all topics. While the books are new, many of them have been published some years ago. I guess I'd describe this as a bookstore for intelligent readers. It is definitely not the standard bookstore. That's why I love this place so much. There are two floors to this store, and I could spend hours just browsing so many interesting, hard-to-find titles. From travel books to fiction to nonfiction. Really something for everyone. Each time I visit Nuremberg, this is one of my favorite book-shopping spots! And the staff is uniformly kind and helpful. If you a re book lover, this is the bookstore for you!
