A popular 10.5-mile mountain biking trail in Oregon's Deschutes National Forest.
We stayed at a hotel adjacent to the trail and went out for a peaceful walk at sunset. The paved trail follows along the banks of the Deschutes River, so the scenery is great. It's suitable for wheelchairs and strollers and passes through Riverbend Park and Farewell Bend Park where there is a playground and some picnic shelters. We easily walked about 2 miles, crossing bridges over the river to go down both sides. There were a lot of people out walking or jogging and we saw people fishing, kayaking and paddle-boarding on the river. Waterfowl were abundant and didn't seem bothered by the company. The Mill District shopping area is right next to the trail; it would make a fun date night to have dinner at one of the restaurants there and then take a walk along the river.

Breathtaking, vast views of the gorge - weather permitting, it's the perfect photo opp! Do plan to make the drive up!

Most people mistakenly call sea stars star fish. They aren’t fish. Sea stars are one of the many wonders that can be seen at Strawberry Hill. During low tide, Pacific seals use the rocks as a haul out and at other times they can be seen feeding with their cute heads bobbing about. Take your binoculars and dress warm with rain gear.

We were recommended to stop by for a hike around Anthony Lakes campground. Spent 2 hours exploring the beautiful scenery. It is about 25-30mins off I84 into the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. There is a day use area, 4 dollars to park, 10 to camp. We wish we had an extra few days to camp, and our floaties! Hiked up the trail to Hoffman lakes which had an even more beautiful view of the granite mountainside extending into the lake. Pics below! The drive into the forest is breathtaking. Worth the delay in drive- time if you have extra hours on hand :)

We were traveling along the coast stopping in different little towns and made a stop in Oceanside and visited their beach. The coolest thing about it is that there was a tunnel going over to another smaller beach that you really couldn’t get to other than through the tunnel. Lots of rocks and shells and things to pick up on the beach and a few tidepools to see various kinds of marine life.

After visiting the Sheep Rock Unit, we drove 50 minutes to Painted Hills. We did this during our road trip as we made our way from Boise to Bend on Wednesday 9/9. Neither area required any fees which was nice. At Painted Hills, we did several trails: Carroll Rim - this was the longest at 1.6 miles round trip with an elevation gain of 374 feet. It took us around an hour. It gives you views from above but really isn't necessary if you are not up to it because it can get hot and there is no shade. Painted Hills Overlook Trail - 1 mile round trip. This was easy and took around 20 minutes. This trail gives you the best photos of Painted Hills. Note that the colors will change depending on the time of day. Painted Cove Trail - .25 miles round trip and on easy board walk. You can see the red hills here. This trail took around 10 minutes. Leaf Hill Trail - .5 miles round trip. This trail was not very interesting. You can give it a pass. The last one which we did not do was Red Star Knoll Trail. This is a short .5 mile round trip trail as well. The roads in Painted Hills are not paved. It is a dirt gravelly road. In total, we spent around 2 hours here and I really enjoyed our time here. The crowds were not too bad when we visited on a Wednesday.
