This monumental basilica was built in the 4th century in the burial place of Saint John the Divine. It was designed in the shape of a cross and was covered with six domes.
A very interesting ruined Basilica, with the Tomb of Saint John Worth a visit if visiting Ephesus, it is an important part in the history of Christianity.

This 16th-century mosque is the largest and oldest in Izmir. Of note are the interior decorations, pulpit and altar.
Right at the center of the market is this imposing mosque, beautifully decorated. For anyone strolling passed the stalls and shops, this should be a stop.

This lovely little mosque is set in a lovely location next to the river in gardens of roses and next to a public square where the buses go to the beach and the local town and where ladies sell their handmade things every evening. I only had a glimpse inside the mosque itself and it was very simple and pretty but we were very grateful for the very clean toilets attached to the mosque. They are the nicest cleanest toilets I have ever seen and the people running them were always lovely and polite. They cost 1 1/2 lira to use. Next to the mosque there is also a lovely dovehouse.
