Took a day trip to Brixen/Bressanone from Innsbruck, to get a quick taste of the Süd Tirol. Came upon the cloisters and frescoes by serendipity. A wonder to behold. Incredible that they have held up so well since the 14th/15th centuries.

Park your car at Sanzeno and walk approx. 40 mins along the cliff side through the gorge on well trodden, fenced paths to this quiet monastery. Take a picnic in your backpack and visit Bruno the resident bear before exploring the monastery built entirely by the monks. Alternatively you can drive through the gorge to the monastery. Either way it's free to visit.

A wealth of art historical treasures and other remarkable attractions awaits visitors to the monastery complex: the collegiate church suffused with light is the southern-most example of southern German late Baroque architecture and the perfect place to pause for reflection or a quiet prayer.
