The small oak church, made of thick beams, seems to have been built in the middle of the 16th century . In the church there is the Icon of the Mother of God to which the existence of the monastic settlement is linked. In the vicinity of the old church there are some hundred years old oaks. The stone church is a nicely painted and maintained.

The Cozia monastery impresses by its authentic architectural style and very well kept interior wall paintings ( icons) and exterior walls. It also impresses by lodging inside the tomb of a well known , heroic Romanian ruler from the XIV century. There is also a museum that can be visited free of charge. Pictures or filming inside the church is forbidden.

We walked up to the Monastery from Orsova (a nice 45 minute hike up the road from the center). The Monastery is well cared for and had amazing flowers everywhere. It is worth a visit. We didn't stay long but wandered around a little enjoying the views and the flowers.
