Took a day trip to Brixen/Bressanone from Innsbruck, to get a quick taste of the Süd Tirol. Came upon the cloisters and frescoes by serendipity. A wonder to behold. Incredible that they have held up so well since the 14th/15th centuries.

A wealth of art historical treasures and other remarkable attractions awaits visitors to the monastery complex: the collegiate church suffused with light is the southern-most example of southern German late Baroque architecture and the perfect place to pause for reflection or a quiet prayer. The cloistered courtyard adjoins the church, characterized by Gothic arches and embellished with frescoes by various artists.Numerous Gothic panel paintings and altar pieces by Friedrich Pacher and artists from his school, precious manuscripts and other liturgical treasures, as well as scientific and historical instruments are on show in the pinacotheca, while the monastery library is a real gem, accommodating around 92,000 precious volumes in its large Rococo style hall.Guided monastery tours (min. 10 persons - on reservation) take place from Monday to Saturday at 10am/11am/ 2pm/3pm and 4pm (excluding Sundays and holy days of obligation). All products from the monastery's own estates and typical Tyrolean snacks of speck, smoked sausages and various cheeses with a choice of regional bread varieties are available for tasting in the monastery cellar pub (open from 10 am to 7 pm).Tutored wine tastings for groups (min. 10 persons) can be organized on reservation. On request the tasting can be combined with a guided tour of the wine estate.Shopping: In the monastery shop all the products from Abbazia di Novacella can be bought directly. The range has been extended to include over 200 different products of other European religious establishments (open from 9.15 am to 6 pm).

The Dominicans Church is near the main cathedral, in Bolzano city center. I think this is a must-visit when in Bolzano. The church itself is nice, not very ornate, but with good frescoes (damaged during WWII). What is really impressive is the presbitery at the church back, with a stunning Baroque ceiling in pink, and Saint John's chapel, with wonderful frescoes in the style of Giotto's school. Also these were damaged during WWII, but what's left is still incredibly beautiful.
