Pondicherry’s bougainvilleas, crumbling cathedrals and leafy boulevards might occasionally make you wonder if you’re in the south of France instead of a former French colony. But it's also unmistakably Indian, with colorful festivals, the famous monument of Aayi Mandapam, and the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. Quiet beaches stretch north and south from town, good for swimming and sunrise strolls.

A great place to visit, even if you are not particularly religious. A temple that looks more like an Egyptian pyramid with a traditional Nataraja idol worshipped in the traditional Tamil way.

Tourism in Pondicherry majorly focuses on the beach, park, Vinayaka temple, Ashram and Auroville. Another unique spot that goes unnoticed and unidentified in the itinerary of the tourists is the Panchavati Anjaneya Temple. The temple is around 15 km from the beach and 7 km from Auroville. This temple of Lord Hanuman deserves a better exposure than it has right now. The large and rare majestic idol of Hanuman leaves the visitors in awe. Highly recommended pilgrimage centre for those planning to visit Pondicherry.
