Avani

Reviewed By Manish-blr - Bengaluru, India

As part of kolar nature tour, from Bangalore, covering Avani Betta , Markendaya hills, Kaigal falls (best avoided by families), we had visited here on the independence day long weekend.it was drizzling that day and the weather was simply awesome to hold us back in bangalore. we took a break at Kamath's restaurant for breakfast and then reached here. First visited sri Ramalingeshwara temple complex, which has multiple Shivalinga's installed by the pandavas, and there is a giant chariot stationed outside. Only 1 of them has the priest doing Puja, it was raining, so we could not spend much time appreciating the beautiful temple carvings. if you are facing the temple, about 100m to the right, there is a road (at bend) which takes you towards the base of stairs to climb to the Sita-Parvati temple at the top of the mountain. several cars can be parked there. all locals climb barefoot, mostly because of reverence of the hill and its mythology, but maybe scientific reason also there that its a steep mountain and with rains, it gets slippery, so barefoot you can feel the surface well and avoid slipping. few tourists were climbing with shoes/sandals and some locals also mentioned that climb should be done without footwear. its a pretty decent climb, so its your choice, as nothing is mentioned as such. most pathway is made with cut rocks (like stairs) or stairs etched into the rock face, at other places arrow marks are made, so the direction is known without guide. Lot of women and kids also climb, so its quite safe for family. little ones may get tired, so climb as per the climate - take water/umbrellas'hats etc. since it was raining slightly, we were lucky to climb even at noon without any problem, though surface was slippery at many places. half way through there is small cave (few structures are there) and further inside smaller cave. LEgend has it that Luv and Kusha were born here and Sitaji spent time here, which was part of Sage Valmiki's ashram. The Sita-Parvati temple at top is really beautiful and also gives very good view of the surroundings. AFter a decent climb, believe like an hour, it gives lot of peace to pray at the temple. Priest was also there.

Lord Ganesha Temple

Reviewed By MilindTendulkar - Pune, India

A huge Ganesha statue of 14 ft made out of Shaligram is the main attraction of the temple. It seems the temple has mythology that the trimurti (Brahma, Vishna & Siva) installed Ganesha here after Ganesha slayed the demon Tripurasura here. Also Rama has done pooja here before he went in search of Mother Sita. Even Pandavas also did pooja here. This place in the Mulbagal taluk of Kolar district in Karnataka. We were on day trip to Kotillingeshwara and this place is nearby to it hence did in a day. Very nice temple build using rocks from near by hills. we visited in very hot day but due to rock built the temple was so cool from inside.

Kotilingeshwara

Reviewed By VikasBhansail - Bengaluru, India

Couple of hours comfortable drive from Banagalore and you get the peaceful temple premises. Other reviews might already be talking about 1 crore Shivlingams and all so let me talk about other things. Parking is just nex to the temple entry and outside you see lot of snacks, toys and prasadam shops. Paid toilets are also just close to the parking. Don't expect some star hotel kind of food or toilets here but things are quite clean and nice. There is an entry fees for the temple (children are free). Stand in a small queue for a minute or so and you enter the temple. There are various temples inside the premise (I remember at-least 10) and they have created the pathway in such form that you have to enter each temple and then reach the biggest Shivlinga and Nandi. Each temple you enter obviously you will offer something so have your pocket full of change. Once you reach the final point where huge Shivling and Nandi are there, view is quite pleasant. You can see beauty of thousands of Shivlingas running all around you. Towards the end there is a Shani-dev and Hanuman temple as well and once you complete them all you can exit directly into the market. We spent around 2 hours inside the premise. But best part of the trip was waiting outside in the parking. There was a guy sitting in the shade and making keychain. What an artist he was. Within a minute he was drawing whatever you want on a piece of wood and making a key-chain. I was so stunned by his drawing skills that I bought couple of personalized key-chains from him. Bottomline is place is quite peaceful though there are people around and its not completly desserted but no loudspeakers, no noise, no non-sense. All you expect from a temple is peace and that's what I got here.

Antharagange Caves

Reviewed By MManohar26 - Bengaluru, India

Its mountain with boulders all around, and thus caves through that makes it interesting experience. One has to walk from Anthargange Temple to reach to caves, then its little difficult to find those in first visit. Kids will be around there to help you find route to caves with some charge. Nice experience. If you still have time then explore some more kind of small ruined fort or top point of Anthargange by walking some more distance from here.
