Tsubaki is located in Oku-Yugawara, within Fuji Hakone Izu National Park. Each season overlays a new patina on the serene beauty of the surrounding country. This striking beauty is found within an hour of the heart of Tokyo.
The property was absolutely lovely, our room was very large, we chose the traditional room with patio and private onset which didn’t feel too private, we could see the lights to cars in the parking lot but we knew we couldn’t see people because of the forest so we weren’t bothered but others might be. The futons were not comfortable for me, I’ve slept in one and it was heaven but it was at a modern establishment years ago in Tokyo so it’s hard to say if this is how it’s suppose to be. My futon did have a stain and I only saw it after I tried to stack two futons on top of each other. The room was clean, well maintained, and STOCKED with everything we needed. Our meals were amazing, minus one breakfast where everything was neba neba lol. The hospitality was amazing! Everyone was so nice and helpful. The staffs English was “so so” and our Japanese was awful lol so we tried. I couldn’t use the baths because I have tattoos, but I did get a spa treatment from Saya, the only person at the hotel who actually speaks English! She was great, one of the best massages I’ve had in a long time. The ryokan is NOT in Hakone. It’s “near” geographically but far by transport. We took a taxi to the town to get ramen, the shop was closed, the only place open was a Denny’s, so guess what!? lol we had Denny’s.

Yugawara is a town near Atami but not as crowded. Has several hidden gem style onsen hotels nearby, but this is a very authentic Japanese style ryokan with two Japanese meals (Dinner and Breakfast the following morning) included. Dinner consists of 10 or so dishes of very traditional local Japanese favorites. A bottle of white NZ Sileni is available only for 4,500 JPY (roughly 40 USD). Nice hot springs bath (onsen) and take a stroll to a beautiful park nearby.

Nice spot with balcony and clean modern room. Central location but just off the beaten track enough to be quiet. Loved the hot spring baths - a new experience that was one of the highlights of the trip.

I stayed here for a weekend in November. The hosts were super friendly and accommodating- when I could not arrive until after 8 the day I checked in, they saved the kaiseki meal for me (dinner is at 6:00 or 6:30). The room was beautiful- tatami mats, futon, traditional shower/tub. I also got a room with its own rotenburo outside. The 2 dinners and breakfasts included were incredible- so much Japanese style, flavor, etc. Easy 25-minute ($40) taxi ride from Atami station, itself a simplr 45-min trip from Tokyo station. I do speak Japanese so while I booked this in English on tripadvisor and they have an English website, I used Japanese to call to arrange for the late dinner, to ask about the cab from Atami, and generally to talk to them. I am not sure how hard it is if you don't speak Japanese.

The view and scenery of a town different from usual, people, different air and wind than usual. It is a hot spring accommodation facility that mainly retreats you to look back on yourself from a somewhat different perspective through time of unheard travel. The facility has a total of 10 bathrooms with 24-hour hot-spring baths and a private outdoor bath on the rooftop - air sora - and in the dining offering meals, vegan course cooking with vegetables and cereals, etc. centering on the body I can taste it. Other options include Esalen massage unique to retreat facilities, aroma session, tuning fork session, coaching, meditation retreat and so on. It is a new accommodation which the event also carries out in various ways. It is also possible to use seminars and charters, use events and so on. Because there is also an event space, business training etc. are carried out in various companies as well.
A lovely and peaceful oasis. Morning meditation (not mandatory) is a lovely offering. The decor is beautiful, simple, and elegant. The staff is warm and wonderful, including at meals. The chefs and the food are delightful. A rainbow of flavors and colors were served. Unique place. Beautiful and spacious rooms. Did I mention the great food?

12月年末に一泊お世話になりました。素泊まりのみでしたが、とてもリーズナブルな旅館です。 従業員の方はとても親切でフレンドリー。駐車場はちょっと離れた処でした。
